Is it illegal to recieve a pirated DVD as a gift from overseas?

Am I under the scrutiny of piracy laws?

If it's a copied from another legit DVD then it is ok as a gift. If it is a movie that is in theaters then it is a violation.

You are allowed to burn DVD's to DVD's, but you cannot sell them for money.
