So according to a great many people on Yahoo! Answers, when a woman performs oral sex on a man it is degrading. I would like to know why people feel this way- and do you think it is a result of sexist ideas in our society?

My point in asking this question, is to try to understand WHY a person might find it degrading. What kind of beliefs about gender would make one consider it degrading?

In certain circumstances, oral sex can be degrading...if it is forced or one-sided, for example, or when there is an imbalance of power between the 2 people.
Visualize a woman on her knees -- this could be interpreted as either an act of worship or one of complete submission. If the man on the receiving end is kind and good, it is a beautiful act, BUT if the man is oppressive or violent, it paints a very dark and degrading picture.
The way oral sex is talked about, in rap music, in a locker room, among teenage boys, contributes to a perception that it is degrading. The line "suck my dik" is is aggressive and punitive.

Hell no, if it makes him feel good and if it pleases you when he's in so much ecstasy, why should it be degrading? There's a common misconception with oral sex, most girls won't partake in it, as they know that their bf's will tell someone had something ever happen to their relationship, so they dub it as "degrading"... Some girls are retarded, but what can you do about it. Some of these girls need to learn that they have one life, and they need to stop being so apprehensive and worrying about petty matters and just please their lovers.

There is nothing degrading about a shared sexual experience. Perhaps the degradation comes later when She/He realizes that Their partner may tell of the experience.
Women have been forced to feel ashamed of their ability to perform what is arguably the single most erotic art of love making possible. We, both Men and Women should be proud of Our sexual expertise, not ashamed of Our open mindedness! I take great pride in what I am good at. Why should this be any different?

I have to disagree with the first answer -- I am a feminist and answered this same question a few hours ago and I said:
" I don't find oral sex degrading at all as a matter of fact I find it powerful in some ways... when you have the ability to make the man you love want like that and feel that satisfied it's empowering. However, it has to be in the right situation and with the right person. If the man you are with starts getting demanding about receiving it or belittles you about it then it can be degrading."
You should stop making generalizations about groups of people you know nothing about because you will be wrong most of the time.

Absolutely not. Do we think oral sex is degrading to men? (and most men do it regardless of what they say...). It's all about pleasing your partner. So long as the two of you are ok with it, and you're in a relationship characterized by mutual respect, then I don't see why it should be degrading at all.

Nothing is degrading if you do it because you like to. Personally, if you aren't enjoying it, don't bother. The lack of enthusiasm will show. That is when can become degrading.
I have never understood the spit or swallow debate. I'm just ecstatic to get to that point.

Oral sex is not degrading as long as you and your partner respect each other and love each other its just part of exploring and its wonderful with someone you love.

I am somewhat of a feminist, but I do not consider oral sex degrading. I like making my partner feel good, and I definitely like it when he returns the favor.
