My opinion, which is worth exactly what you're paying for it, is the opinion of a male and may therefore not be completely impartial.
I believe that your intuition, as evidenced by your follow-up questions, is right on target: science-based and techology-based fields of endeavor are dominated by males, and in my opinion it is the result of both lack of interest in the grade school years and by fewer opportunities for women later in life, under circumstances where the lack of interest earlier in life and the fewer opportunities for women later in life are mutually reinforcing and self-perpetuating.

You are going to hate me for this. This does not apply to everyone, everywhere and all the time, however...
Regardless of the battle of the sexes, the brains of men and women are wired differently. This does not mean in all cases men do one thing and women do another. The wiring can be different from person. This is only a generalization that does apply to the majority.
By the way, if you are interested in technology and science, you go for it girl! Don't let anybody stop you from following your dream or interests. Besides, if we had more women in these fields, we just might stop making so many bombs and other ways of killing each other.
By the way...I am a man. Good luck.

I agree with the majority, that it is a biological difference. Men tend to think more logically while women tend to think more emotionally. This is not intended to be a sexist view. Simply an evolutionary programming.
Do what you enjoy. I don't think the opportunities are lacking for women, I just think less of them pursue the fields.

I find it tragic that more women do not go into these fields. Having said that the percentage in Europe and Asia is far, far higher than it is in the USA.
Traditional upbringings and somewhat narrow world views are part of the cause in my opinion.

I think your question is more unsupported assertion than question. Look to the innate difference between male and female brains and think of a normally distributed curve of male/female traits.

goodness some of you could set the woman's movement back centuries. in my husband's school there are female techies and I have a friend who is a great tech. if a woman is interested she could pursue this field with no problem.

No techie pioneers that are female. Maybe it doesn't appeal to them. With women in every aspect of the business world, I don't believe they are being shut out, it's just not appealing..like fire fighting or police.

I think that men r more in tuned to that part of the brain.Apparently there is a big part of our brain that isn't used.Same goes for men. but there use of certain parts of the brain r not the same as women's.

I just think the methodical scientific method is ill suited to women's emotional wiring. They nurture and grow things, not hunt or disassemble them
