acoustic guitar players?

Question

i just bought a new guitar and am not too imressed with the sound of the strings, what strings would you suggest i get if i wasnt a more folky sound like bob dylan or bright eyes to come from my guitar. also i finger pick and this is a steel string yamaha guitar

hmm... a steel string yamaha... i tend to prefer elixir strings on my acoustic, they have a softer sound, although i have an old acoustic that has silk/steel strings that sound pretty... but yeah id go with the elixirs, click on the link. (i prefer light as opposed to medium) they should last you 5-6 months with regular use.

Try DR strings, but don't expect a miracle. The problem is most likely a combination of the guitar itself and the player.
