Until there's an outcry from a majority of the American people to their elected officials, there's little to be done. You can stop driving; but most of us don't have this as an option. I've written to my senator about this and have recieved little more than a form letter for my efforts. This kind of apathy disgusts me, and right now the focus seems to be on the "war" and little if any on domestic policy. We had windfall profit taxes and energy conservation measures in the 1970s and 1980s. We need these measures reinstated. As another thought, the government has kept food prices down for years by dumping food out on the open market. Normally, I'm for less not more government intrusion; but maybe the government should get into the refinery business. Just a thought.

I don't feel this is too extreme...in my city the police patrol downtown on horse back, and I feel I should be allowed too.I was seriously thinking about writing my mayor asking for allowance to ride horses as an alternative to driving. I realize we have evolved for horses but maybe we need to take a step back sense the way we are going is no longer productive.

There's an old saying, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em." When gas prices were rising at an alarming rate a few years ago, I advised people to buy shares of Exxon Mobil. Those who did as I suggested now have capital gains which far exceed the extra money they have paid for gas.

Someone forwarded me an email asking me as they did many other people not to buy gas on May 15 or May 16, kind of like a protest and for those two days they will lose a ton of money.

Use B100 Bio-Diesel. It's produced from Soybeans, and actually gets better mileage and performance than regular diesel.

And unlike Ethanol, it is more readily available for use in vehicles currently on the road.

Or, you could buy a conversion kit for your car and run off propane.

Write your congressman. Tell him that during Jimmie Carter's administration, there was an outcry to develop new sources of energy, develop alternative fuels, and end our dependence on foreign energy.
Ask him, why the hell nothing was done.
