Dang, kinda sounds like the opposite of the national prohibition laws of the 20-30's (there were also local and state ones for a time yet not sure about them), it's like the consumer is blamed though everyone knows nicotine is addictive. In the 20's and 30's the selling of liquor, not drinking it was outlawed so people who would drink in the speakeasies were either trying to protect the sellers when running and discarding of the drinks when police came knocking or didn't know there wasn't a reason for fearing being caught, now it's like people can't drink in public nor smoke in public yet a person can sell as much of these addictive substances as they would want to to an adult (yet they have to have a license to sell regular). I guess these people at top either are with the beer/cigarette making companies when it comes to adults for personal gain (at least they draw the lines with kids) and/or these people petitioning for laws affecting mainly the consumer guess that if there wasn't a demand there wouldn't be a supply regardless of the circumstances (addiction).

This country is going crazy with rules! I say if someone wants to waste their life away smoking, eating or drinking then let them! We're way too controlled in this country and when people are that controlled they'll only end up rebelling. It's all just an excuse for the government to make more money from taxes. If you ask me they don't really care otherwise they'd be investing their time into better causes. England is slowly going down the drain - move to Holland! People are more free, less aggressive and live much more content lives :)

It brings in huge profit. The well being of the consumer does not matter to big corporations. The money matters. As horrible as that is, that's how they make money: Exploiting people and pulling them into a near inescapable death grip. If people just decide not to try smoking, that would kill off the multi-million/billion dollar cigarette companies. Of course, America profits hugely from these companies, so yeah they're not gonna put much effort into discouraging people from smoking.

Cigarettes kill people.
Cigarettes cause cancer.
First and second hand smoke...
It should be taken off the market, then no one could get addicted to this cancer stick.
But we can't prevent you from wanting to throw away your life by killing your self by intoxication...
So just stay in the smoking section, smoke outside... and whatever...
I agree that some smoking laws are riduculous.... like not being able to smoke in your own home...
but the reason why it sells is because of one thing.
Money.

Somking is harmful, that's why it's bad to smoke it.But It's not ok to sell! I know that many stores and shops seel it,but they don't have any sense of homur..Because they aren't afraid of people's health! By the way,not all shops and stores are like that, many of them banned selling cigarettes.

I have another one-why can our young people enlist and go fight a war-but not buy cigarettes or beer? I am old so I don't encourage young people to smoke( I do) or drink but if they can risk their lives for our country, our country oughta buy them a beer!

Kickbacks to governments and libertarians. You're comparing an apple with an orange. "Bad" is value and "okay to sell" is law.
