Go to a store like Victoria's Secret and have a fitting. They have trained employees who specialize in finding you the perfect size and fit. They will find what works the best with your breast's unique shape and size.

Id try a 34 DD. Each bra also varies according to style and manufacturer. 80% of all American women have the wrong size usually to small a cup and too large a band size. Keep trying its so worth it to find a comfortable supportive one. I buy 3 or 4 more after Ive tried one for a few days and it fits Good Luck

If you measured 29" under breasts and added 5" to get 34" you might need to get a 34, 36, or even 32" band.
If you measure 34" and then add 5", you probably need a 36 or 38" band.
Subtract your Band size from your bust [fullest part] to get the CUP size. 1"dif - A cup; 2" - B cup;3" - C; 4"- D; 5" DD
Try one size up and down from what you measure, and try dif styles/brands.

Try a 38B or 38C.
Although if you say a 36D was too big in the band, but too small in the cup, I would say try a 34DD or 34DDD.
I'd try all of these sizes and hopefully you will have some luck.
