Yes. I've been there a bunch of times. The ice will keep the swelling down. I've always been told ice for the first 24 hours, heat thereafter, ibuprofen for the pain.

The srained ankle is still going to hurt, whether you ice it or not. The ice is just supposed to keep the swelling down.

Yes, sprains hurt very bad.
Don't have the ice on it more than 15 minutes.
Have you been to the doctor?
Be sure and elevate your foot
