In a microwave oven, there is less power going in to get the same results.
Another way to look at it is in the amount of heat coming out of the unit. When you open a microwave door after it is done cooking, you feel some heat escape. But when you open a regular oven door, you feel a LOT of heat escaping...plus, there is heat escaping during the entire cook time (which is longer with a standard oven). The amount of heat wasted directly correlates to inefficient energy usage.

Microwave Ovens use microwaves which are very high frequency radiations. Ovens use heating elements. Microwaves uses multidimentional cooking principle so that the waves get applied all the side of the food and thus cooks very fast. In ovens, only single or dual cooking principle is available. since high frequency radiations are very faster than normal heating elements, microwave can cook faster and so conserves lot of energy.

Microwaves vibrate just the water molecules inside the food you are heating. In an oven you are heating the food by first heating the surrounding air. So basically the microwave takes a direct route to heating the food and the oven takes the scenic route.

Energy is directed to the food in a microwave. The food heats directly through molecular excitation.

Ovens heat the air to a much higher (than necessary if you use a microwave) temperature, which is a waste. They heat food indirectly (convection and via thermal radiation), which takes longer than a microwave oven.

The longer you have the door open the longer it takes the refrigerator to relax returned. wish it is a few extra to characteristic on your checklist.
