NO GAS...On May 15th 2007

Don't pump gas on MAY 15th

In April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.

On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.

There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.

If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take $2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companies pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.

If you agree (which I cant see why you wouldn't) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"

Wow...anyone who agrees with this is retarded and obviously knows nothing about economics. How will the demand decrease just because people decide to not fill up on a certain day? The increased demand on other days to make up for it will cancel out the lack of demand on May 15th. If you want to reduce the price of gas, get people to DRIVE LESS...not just fill up on another day instead of a certain day. Nothing is accomplished when you're still driving the same amount of miles and using the same amount of gas.

To put this in simpler terms, here's an example:
Say you have a 20 gallon gas tank and let your tank get half empty before filling up your tank again. So that means you get about 10 gallons of gas every 4 days, for instance, but you decide to try to throw off the global economy and oil market by getting your buddies online to not get gas when they usually do.

So, with your ultra clever scheme, you let your tank go down to almost empty while still driving the same amount!!!!!! Oh man, you've just caused BP, Shell, Exxon Mobil, and all the other oil giants to go out of business!!!! But wait, you let your tank go down to almost empty, and then you realize you have to fill up this time with 20 gallons to get back to a full tank....which means you've still bought 20 gallons of gas over a span of 8 days, you just got it all at once this time instead of in 4 day intervals. Dang it, you almost threw off the global economy...it was a valiant effort...keep trying.

Stupid!

First, prices did no such thing in April 1997. Urban legend. These 1 day gas boycotts are proposed once or twice a year, and never make any difference.

But for argument's sake, let's assume 100% compliance. That means anyone who would have filled up on the 15th instead fills up on the 14th or 16th. So the gas companies have record sales on those two days, and none on the 15th. They are still selling every bit as much of the product. They are still getting the same dollar amount from you. What kind of message does that send?

Companies do everything by month and quarter. For the month and quarter, no difference is made. Even if the protest lasts a week, still no difference, as everyone tanks up before to get them through that week.

They've got us over a barrel, and the only way to "protest" the high price of gas, is to boycott using it. Take public transit or buy a Prius and teach those SOBs at Exxon, Iran and in Detroit.

If you really want to do something, than organize a day to NOT USE GAS. That actually will send a message to the oil companies and Middle Eastern oil countries. But you won't do that will you? Because you won't change your lifestyle. You would rather send some stupid symbolic message than do anything that might actually work, because it involves sacrifice.

I'm going to make a special point to fill all of my families 3 cars on the 15th to protest this stupid protest.

I wish I could pay three dollars a gallon for gas. I live in canada and gas is over a1.20 a litre in some places. There are about four litres in a gallon, so we're paying over $4.40 a gallon here.

Even though gas prices are higher than we are used to, we still pay more for things like coffee and shampoo.

That being said, there are many places in the world paying more than us for gas. For instance
(everything listed is in US Currency and Gallons)
Teeside - UK - 5.64
Hong Kong - Honk King - 5.62
Frankfurt - Germany - 5.29
Rome - Italy - 4.86

Yes, there are some places on the list paying much less for gas than the US and Canada, but can't we at least be glad that we're not paying what some of the above cities are for gas?

Yeah by fact sometime of gross sales will relatively make a distinction. thinking: a million. The gas stations have paid for this gas, or a bar minimum are going to be invoiced at a definite fee. 2. The oil agencies get their money from a good number of factors. Do you somewhat think of that agencies so great does no longer be distinctive adequate to verify that those Blips could be mere inconvenience, fairly than business employer shaking experience 3. think of approximately your stupid thought. I have recieved many emails telling me not to pump gas on May 15th, and just want to remind everyone that it won't have the desired effect if they make up the loss the next day. Please ride a bike to work that day as well, or carpool, to ensure that the loss is truly felt. It will also be better for the environment.

No, because it's stupid and isn't going to accomplish anything. In the first place, this idea was born on idiotic "MySpace", where 80% of the members aren't even old enough to drive, much less own a car.

One of the stupidest things I have ever seen. For all the so-called billions of dollars the gas companies would lose on May 15th, just how much MORE money will they make on the days just preceding the 15th, and on the days just after the 15th! One day isn't going to do much, nor is it going to "lessen" our consumption of gasoline at all. Look at it this way - its still cheaper than buying bottled water!

Gas outs do not work!

the 30 cent drop did not happen 10 years ago.

people will just buy gas the next day, or the day before and nothing will change.

This is just another urban legend proved false by snopes.com

(and you just copied this from your myspace didn't you? GULLIBLE!!!)

I won't pump gas because I don't drive. Besides, that wasn't a question, and it has nothing to do with sports. Tree hugger

It's nice! But because they will not pump gas on that day, they will make up for it the next day anyways. These events should not come once a year, maybe multiple times a year in order for it to have an impact.
