I am auditioning for a musical theater college and I need a good audition song. I am an alto and the song needs to not be well known. So NOTHING from shows like Wicked, Phantom, Les Mis, Jekylle & Hyde, or shows like that. It also has to be two minutes or 32 bars long. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest looking at what the following charachters sing in their respective shows:

Sally in Cabaret, Carrie in Carousel, Robin in Godspell, Flaemmchen in Grand Hotel, Marty in Grease, June or Mazeppa in Gypsy, Jeannie in Hair, Bet in Oliver, Sarah in Ragtime, Jenny Anderson in Shenandoah, Luce in The Boys from Syracuse, Anita in West Side Story, Lucy in Charlie Brown...

Those are all the altos I can think of right now! If you can transpose music, pick whatever you like but in any case go for a character you fit well. Break a leg!

You're trying to get into a musical theatre college and your audition piece needs to be from a musical that is *not* well known? What a strange requirement. Hopefully that requirement is there to keep people from singing the same 6 songs over and over again.

Try "The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas", except don't do I Will Always Love You, obviously. But there are some good alto and alto/mezzo songs in it.

Good luck!!

I even have auditioned pupils for over 25 college musicals. it relatively is my opinion which you should in no way sing something that's no longer a minimum of two an prolonged time previous. i'm no longer that woman" has merely been executed by skill of the character in depraved, or an exceedingly modern recording, meaning you're competing against a expert. you in addition to might run the threat of being between the various to sing an identical music. seek for a matching character to the single your daughter could choose to be in this prepare. look in 20 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous musicals. stable success

Bohemienne (from Notre Dame de Paris) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FICutFuEIgg - The video I posted is in French (with English subtitles). There is an English version of this song. If you are interested in doing this song, email me and I'll give you the lyrics and the karaoke version of it. It's a really neat song, and my personl favorite!

Anything but Lonely (from Aspects of Love) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kl5GrDplHg0 - This song is fairly high, but does have low notes.

Learn to Be Lonely - (Phantom of the Opera) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLse7g_Nfuo - I know, I know, I picked POTO, but technically, it's not part of the musical. Lloyd Webber just added it to the film version (only heard in the end credits) So if you'd like to give it a shot. By the way, this was a music video made by a YouTub(er).

Tire Tracks and Broken Hearts (from Whistle Down the Wind) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrcrIUlWoao - Very low song! It's also a great beat, and I love this song!

All Grown Up (Bare : A Pop Opera) - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=22A51oAvCPA - A great song, and if you have the chance, look up "Portrait of a Girl" on YouTube also.

Hope this helps!

How about a something from Miss Saigon? I suggest the song THE MOVIE IN MY MIND. Lea Salonga won a Tony for this role (Kim) and she has an alto-soprano voice.

A song from old musicals would be great. How about South Pacific? I also recommend I ENJOY BEING A GIRL from FLOWER DRUM SONG. It's cute and lots of energy.
