I know this question sounds ridiculous. I have a very conservative friend and we had a discussion about marriage and civil unions. He claimed that Julius Caeser had a civil union with a HORSE. I wasn't even aware that civil unions existed one thousand years ago. Can anyone tell me if this is true, or if not, what he might have been thinking of?

Sounds rather fishy. During the time of Julius Caesar there was an official religous ceremony "The October Horse" in which a horse was sacrificed. Much later the the emperor, Caesar Caligula, kept a favorite horse in his home and later made the horse a senator.

That sounds ridiculous to me. I don't think there's any reasonable way of proving that statement, since the man lived so long ago.

I couldn't find any evidence of Caesar having any intimate relationship with a horse.

I think your friend might be thinking of Catherine the Great who was purported to have been in love and had sex with her horse. Never heard anything like that about J.C.

False.

Cathrine the Great of Russia was rumored to have died while having sex with a horse, but that too is a myth.

Your friend could have heard that story and misremembered it.
