and only thing that person was doing was wasting away (his youth and health) what would you do? Would you step in and try to help or would you just ask someone you thought he opened up to.

The one thing I have learned is never try to help someone who doesn't want help.
Those who waste their lives are prone to pull others down.
If they can't help themself then maybe they don't need help.

If this person matters to you go ahead and have your say. Do not expect it to be well received though.

Otherwise you might just have t write them off. You can not control another person you can only control yourself.

You can't help someone who doesn't want help. Someone else's life is not your responsibility to live.
