Let's see. My horses name is Bronco, I named him when I was nine. But I am in love with his show name Olympic Spirit. I think it suits him quite well. My favourite name for a horse (possibly in the future) would be Mozart.

Most horses, if not all, are already named when they are born and have learned to respond to that name. The exceptions are some of the animals that come through rescue, as the rescue group may not know what the animal was named. If you are getting a horse, hopefully you have taken some professionally taught riding, handling and grooming lessons, so that you can safely handle a very large and potentially dangerous animal (dangerous to the untrained human).

I've owned horses my whole life.
We have three geldings right now. Tiko, Phantom and Snickers. We named them as we got to know their personalities.
Snickers stole a Snickers bar out of my husband's back pocket and ate it before we could get it away from him.
Phantom was always sneaking up on one of us when we were in the pasture.
Tiko was just a really sweet guy.
We've also had a quarter-horse mare and named her Mocha because of her coloring (her registered name is Daring Suzette).
Get to know your horse before you name him. It will become clear to you what his name should be. Congratulations on getting a new friend.

I have taken care of people's horses and they all seem to name them for some quality that has arisen while in their company.
Jackpot, was for a Appaloosa an elderly lady seemed to think was a lucky find.
Breezy was a friend of hers Arabian's name because he passed a lot of wind when she was around him the first few days.
Give it some time, you will come up with something suitable.
