For me its a toss up between Muse Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nirvana although The chili peppers have sold out and i like nirvana's sinical view on life so ill have to go with nirvana

I don't think you can pick a "best" of anything, but in history, it wouldn't be any of the bands you've listed.
The peppers, however, are AMAZING. They have NOT sold out. Every song on the new cd has a wicked guitar solo they're still just as crazy and TALENTED as ever.
Nirvana may be cynical but to be the "best band" or whatever, you have to have it in every area of the music. Their lyrics may have been good, but the guitar and bass just don't do anything for me. Cobain didn't try enough new things with his music.

As for the "best", I'm leaning towards Pink Floyd.
