I always had a girlfriend and only masturbated to women until a certain time. In 7th grade I was in a bad car accident was in a coma for 11 days. Shortly after that I began being really attracted to other guys for the 1st time. Now I am 100% gay. I have no idea if the accident did it or if it would have happened eventually but I don't like when people say you are "born" one way or the other. There are different things in everyones life that shape the way things turn out.

Don't say it was puberty because I went through that in 5th grade. I was placed in a transitional 1st grade so I was 1 1/2 years older than my other classmates.

Yes I do believe people are born gay but not everyone. To the person who says its a choice.... LOL whatever, you are obviously straight!

I am sorry for the false impression that people imprint on those of us who are GLBT.
You just do not turn gay. You either are gay or you are not.

Oh look ... another straight teenager who knows it all. Yes, child, I honestly believe I was born gay. Really. Just like you were born to be heterosexual. Did you really choose to be straight? Really? Please, could you outline the thought processes you went through to make that choice? And what world do you live in where"the majority" are tolerant of gay people? UPDATE (in response to your e-mails): I don't know why I am bothering, but here goes: "there are people who are proud to be gay and don't care even though there are struggles" ... so people happily risk punishment, torture, and death for PRIDE? How can any half-way intelligent person even think that? "given the choice" ... you would have been straight?" ... I have no comparison to make. Ever since I became aware of sexual feelings I have been attracted soley to women. I have never had a single sexual thought about men. (and that is leaving out the emotional attraction which is an even larger part than the sexual) . Even if the "choice" were available I would would not change one thing about the way I live my life, or the person with whom I am lucky enough to share it. "scientific proof" ... I have sent you links to some sites and articles. I'd just like to point out that I am not a scientist, and (unlike you seem to be) I am not obsessed by first causes. Nor to be honest, am I even that interested. I have a life to lead, I have had to face problems because of ignorance and prejudice, but I'm more than happy with the life I have. Who actually (well, other than YOU) cares whay I am gay? All I can say is, it was never a choice. Now, child, please answer MY questions, the ones you continue to avoid: How, and by what method, did YOU choose to be straight? What exploration of your sexuality did you make before deciding that you were going to choose heterosexuality? Why don't you want to be gay? .

Chemical, neurogenic, anything is possible, right? We (the scientific minds we put our faith in) have yet to find out where the "gay gene" comes from. It's always been theorized that everyone has it, but it's only active in some people and in those folks, it may be active but partially so (bi-sexuals, bi-curious, etc.) or it may be a dominant behavior type gene... something that makes gay men actively seek relations with other men, women with women.

The coma is the most likely cause in this case, not the accident itself. I've never heard this before, ever. And what I'm mentioning above is only what I understand.

I agree; I don't think sexuality is only genetic, but rather a complex interaction between genetics, personality, psychology, formative events in our youth, and environment. Not to mention that sexuality isn't black or white, but a spectrum, a continuum, and oftentimes it isn't so much that someone is gay or straight, period, but rather that certain things can influence our likelihood to have certain fantasies or desires or attractions and act on them.

Suffice to say, your experience disproves the "everyone who is gay is born gay" theory, but that also doesn't invalidate those who do feel they were born gay- remember that.

Hope that helps.

That's actually really interesting. You should consider talking to someone who does GLBT research, they might be able to gain something from it.

I've heard of head injuries causing certain post-trauma changes, usually you hear of people losing brain power, or some of the super lucky ones gain it(one guy can remember the weather on any given day since his accident perfectly).

So it's possible it changed your wiring, I don't know, I never actually even considered that it could happen. I never thought about heavy head trauma.

It is interesting, you should really consider looking for some authentic researchers online and mention it to them. Just do it carefully, so that you don't get the bible thumping ones.

well contrary to what alot of people think...(ill probably get blasted) I think some feel they are born gay and some who dont feel they were.....some feel it was something they chose later in life....
Hence the ever changing sexuality that is present....How would one explain the fact that some women for instance who are married and love men decide to try wormen out of curiosity...they fall in love with a women later....was she born gay maybe...does it matter ?...no...sexuality is all over the board and who's to say we are born this way or not...

hope that helps

You just provided evidence that it is wired into our brains and not a "choice." A physical head trauma is the only way you could "turn gay" if you weren't already born that way. Who knows? You do realize that your case is an exception, don't you?

i've heard the 'you're born gay' phrase a lot online and have used it myself. But then i thought 'does it matter if you're born gay or turn gay? Fact is you're gay meaning you still deserve respect whether you're born gay or turn gay (although i feel i was born gay - since i knew when i was 5ish).

Honey either you're lying, were held back several years or you're still dealing with brain damage if you think you went through puberty in fifth grade!

MOST 5th graders are ONLY 10 years old.

I dont know your answer but I think the tendencies to be attracted to the same sex are in all of us. Some of us just are able to supress and deny these feelings. Others act on them and may find they prefer the same sex. That is my theory anyways.....
