It's Buddy the Elf. I believe Santa refers to him as "buddy" when baby Buddy crawls out of Santa's sack. You know, as in, "How'd YOU get in there, buddy?" Hence, the name "Buddy". I may be wrong about the origins, but I am 100% positive about the name.
