Hi Will...
JRR Tolkien actually won a variety of awards, though many of them were awarded posthumously (after his death).
Here is a complete list of the ones I am aware of:
1938 - The "New York Herald Tribune" Spring Book Festival Award for The Hobbit
1957 - International Fantasy Award for Lord of the Rings
1974 - Hugo Awards - Gandalf Award (Grand Master of Fantasy) (note the the award was named after Tolkien's character)
1978 - Gandalf Award for Book-length fantasy for The Silmarillion
Aside from these formal awards, he was also honored with a large number of honorary degrees (I don't have the list of degrees, sorry), and was awarded fellowship in The Royal Society of Literature in 1957.
Finally, The Lord of the Rings was voted "Book of the Century" by readers in several large polls, most notably the poll run by Waterstones, a very large British bookstore chain.
You can find plenty more information on JRR Tolkien's life and writings at http://www.tolkien-online.com
Good luck with your project.

Well, I do have to admit, when I started reading Harry Potter, I was disappointed. The beginning was so slow and boring. I thought it was supposed to be exciting. So, I didn't read it for at least two years. Then, I started over. I read through the beginning. It got more exciting, and I began to like the book more and more. I love the movies though. You should watch them if you haven't. The books aren't as exciting because they are written in a different way. Rowling is English, so she writes differently. Same with the Narnia series. It's a great story, but it just drags on and on. I love the movies, though. I would suggest you read Magyk. It is a great book. Oh, and Inkheart. They both are wonderful books. I think you will like them.

Never won any awards for his writings. Unfortunately most awards commitees don't recognize Fantasy as a genre worthy bestowing awards.
