what do you think is the most tragic thing that the men (specifically of the 101st airborne in bastogne) went through before achieving victory?

The most tragic thing-they had little or no proper winter clothing, shelling was constant, men were falling back on all sides, and there were many cases of trench foot, which caused the feet to swell painfully. Also, in the cold, their weapons jammed because parts got frozen. The 101st had very little food, and one company commander recalled being told that the only artillery piece near him was saving its last 3 shells for antitank purposes, so ammunition was a problem.

The major trajedy of the Battle of the B was the Malmedy incident, but that didn't involve the 101st. The cold and lack of ammunition was probably the worst thing they went thru at Bastogne.
