I am nearly due to give birth, we dont know the sex and we are struggling to find names we like.

It scares me, even the names I liked a couple of months ago, I don't like now.

How am I going to choose something I will like for ever?

I want some thing unusual without sounding cheap or tacky!!

I know I can type baby names into a search engine, but its not really helping. I enjoyed ready the other questions and answers on here and thought it might help me to!!

I loved the name Fiona before I got pregnant and that is what I called my first it was going to be Nathan for a boy I never had my boy but my daughter named hers Nathan so I did have my boy after all, my niece called her baby after a bin in the labour ward it was a Lucy bin my third born was named after the nurse holding her first and as soon as you see the baby you will say oh she looks like an Amy or a gemma maybe a Josh or a Sam stop worrying you will get the name right GOOD LUCK

It is a medically proven fact that womens brains go a bit dippy when pregnant - and think this must be the reason for all the weird and wonderful names out there....so check out your name choice with lots of non -pregnant people....ask them to be honest about whether they think it is a good choice.

when you have had your baby - your partner will be so in awe of what you have just done - and so smitten with the new babe....that he will agree to anything - this can be dangerous in the 'dodgy name' game - so tell him now that he has to keep a cool head.

I read a really interesting article about a survey completed by teachers all over the country. they had been asked to give the name ofthe naughtiest boy and the naughtiest girl in their class. The survey showed that the naughtiest children in britain are called: Ryan/Kyle/Jack/Jessica or Kylie

I chatted to a teacher friend about this and she said it was soooooooooo totally true...so avoid these names!

Check the US top 1000 names and look closer at the 500-1000 names. This way you have something "normal" yet not 5 kids on the street to share name with.

It's hard to come up with suggestions if you don't give a few examples of what kind of name you like.

My name is Camilla, there's not many of us around. Unless you go to Scandinavia, there we're a dime a dozen :-)

Another idea is to look at the top name lists of other western countries and find inspiration there.

Third inspiration source is to use family names, your parents, grandparents, great grandparents. See if there is something that rings a bell.

I was freaked about my daughters name. I had 3 names I really liked, and I knew it was going to be one of them. But when my daughter came out, I looked at her, thought of the three names, and none of them looked like her. I starting freaking out, bc I had no name!!!
So I started going through names in my head, really fast. All of the sudden Bridget came to my mind, and that's what she looked like.
It fits so well now, I'm so glad I chose it. I have heard this same type of story from many women. If I were you, I would go through the name books and website, to get some idea of what you like. Keep a list of some of your top faves, even if none of them seem right.
When you give birth, the right name will come to you, dont worry.
Best of luck!!

You know, my mom got me a book that has a million different lists of names in it. I read and read and read and finally decided to name my baby after my mom! But I did really consider the lists of popular names in other countries, because you got some good ones off of it that didn't sound too cheesy. I also thought back to some of my favorite books and the characters from them. For example, if I have a boy, I have thought about naming him Holden after Holden Caufield in The Catcher in the Rye. I have also thought back to historical figures and am now also thinking about Julian (a twist on Julius - Julius Ceasar) for a boy. If all else fails, go for a junior. For a long time, I always said if I had a baby I was just going to name it Jesse, after me. That works for a boy or a girl!
I'm also on a mission to get someone to name their baby Qubert. You like that one? I understand if you dont.

I think when you see your little one, it is easier to choose the name. Friends of mine were 3 months after the baby was born before they settled on a name. I was certain that I was naming my daughter Ashley Nicole...had it picked out even before I got pregnant. After she was born, I told my husband...No...she looks like a Stephanie to me, so Stephanie Nicole it is. Whatever name you choose, I think you will like it forever because you will associate it with your little one. Try getting a book, a glass of iced tea, and sit back and look through. It can be more relaxing and fun that sitting at the computer monitor. Good luck and come back and let us know what you chose....:)
