Technically, you are responsible for making sure that you are aware of any work or assignments that you missed. If you didn't bother to check, then that is really your problem. If you asked your friends and they didn't tell you, through idiocy or laziness, then it is still mainly your problem, but you would think the teacher might cut you some slack.
Next time, ask the teacher about any assignments; that way you won't get caught again.
She was probably annoyed because you acted like being absent on that day was an excuse, that it wasn't your fault. If you had said something like 'Sorry I didn't know that there was an assignment. I asked Emilee and Jayden but they didn't mention it. I realise now that I should have gone directly to you. Is it ok if I do it tonight and hand it in first thing tomorrow? I won't let it happen again.'
Teachers LOVE that kind of cr*p.

From what I can see you have an attitude problem and that is why your teacher is sweating you.
You should have picked up the assignment the next day you attended school and turned it in on time. You would have had one day less to complete the task, which is no big deal.
In the real world you will one day get a job and have a boss that will tell you to do a project and to have it ready at a specific time. The boss won't be interested in any excuse you might have. You have a deadline and you must produce or face the consequences. That's the way it works.
Your teacher isn't only teaching you math, she's teaching you about what to expect when you get out of school and will have to either sink or swim with societal rules.
Even though you don't appreciate it now, your teacher is wise in preparing you for what is to come. It's a shame that you're not smart enough to recognize wisdom when it's staring you in the face.
In case this wasn't clear to you, you are in the wrong.

Ok, what is the official school policy regarding absences? Are you following the procedures for that policy? If so, then file a complaint with the principle or whoever is in charge of absences.
However, if you are not following policy then the math teacher would be in the right. The schools I have seen did not have the student take a note to the teachers explaining it. It was a slip from the office excusing the student for the absence.
It all boils down to if you are going by the book.
Ooh. I read the other answers and then reread yours and realized that you indicate that you were not gone on tuesday. That would tell me that you would be in the wrong on that one. It would be your responsibility to get all of your assignments as soon as you got back. If you had class on tuesday with this teacher then you should have had the assignment. At best, I might see the teacher letting you turn it in one day later, but that will probably be at the discretion of the teacher.

I don't know your exact circumstances, but there is more than a week between the time the assignment was due and the due date. If you missed only the day when the assignment was given, it was your duty to find out what was done in class and what your homework was.
I know this is not what you wanted to hear, but it was always like this; it is usually explicitly written in the school policy, handed out at the beginning of the school year.
Granted, teacher's "I don't care" reaction is not what you should expect from your teacher; he/she should have explained the "late homework" policy once again (although I'm sure it was done at the beginning of the school year. but most students just sleep through it).
You should check the school policy on this subject; if you still think you have been unfairly treated in this problem, you should complain to the principal or whoever is your teacher's boss.

Pythagorean Theorem, a^2 + b^2 = c^2. In which, C is the longest side, the hypotenuse. A and B are the legs of the triangle. So 6^2 + 8^2 = c^2 c= (36+64)^(1/2) c=(100)^(1/2) c=10 The Perimeter of the garden is 10 + 6 + 8 = 24 feet. Therefore, she needs 24 feet of fencing to complete her project.

I am afraid that the teacher is right on this count. If it was not due until yesterday, you had plenty of time to find out if you missed any assignments and to get them turned in. However, if it had been due the next day, that would have been a different story... Also, It probably wasn't a good Idea to mouth of to the teacher like that, otherwise she WILL make life difficult for you.

With no warning and not GOOD excuse as to why you missed the class then yeah, I hate to say it, but school is up to you. Do the work or ship out.
On the other hand, if you gave her/him warning that you'd miss, or you had a GOOD excuse why you missed then the teacher is a flake!
I taught a few math and physics classes......my opinion was....and it was stated as such: Miss a class...fine....but either catch yourself up (I was always willing to help to a degree, depending on the situation) and make good on what you missed, or don't piss and moan of you got a bad grade.......IF this is on you and not the teacher. If it was the teacher, then you're not alone. There are as many idiots teaching as there are pretending to be students in the classrooms.

It depends on the teacher and the class policy. Most of the teachers doesn't like students use the excuse of absent to turn in the late homework. And I think your teacher was right. You supposed to find out your assignment if you were absent, and you need to turn in your assignment when you are back, not asking for the assignment when you are back.
I can blame your teacher for not telling you this, or she is just kind of mean to you. That is all

you are in the wrong. If it was due yesterday it was due yesterday. This is how the real world works. If ou have some other teachers that let you put off assignments b/c of absence, consider yourself lucky. Deadlines are there for a reason.

You missed last Monday and the assignment was due yesterday. The correct action would be for you to have picked up your missed assignments on Tuesday and turned them in when due. Your teacher has every right not to accept late assignments - unless they were due on the day that you were absent.
