My doctors are telling me I am having a very small baby and will check again with ultrasound next week. She hasnt grown in a week and measures 3 weeks behind. Has anyone else had this experience? Is there a chance they would want to get her out early so she could grow better on the outside?

I had this experience TWICE.

At 36 weeks they said I was measuring too small and so they did stress tests every week on my son. He did great with the tests, but I was told he would weigh around 5 pounds.

But he was born at 37 weeks via c-section and was perfectly healthy and weighed 6.5 pounds!

With my third baby, they said I measured 35 weeks when I was 37 weeks. But my baby came right on time at 38 weeks and was 7.5 pounds.

So doctors can be significantly off with their predictions about size, and also about due date. It's possible you are due later than they think and so maybe baby is right on track.

Either way, I would not worry about something that cannot be predicted or changed. Just take each day at a time and remember babies always grow better in the womb.

This is why I don't get ultrasounds anymore. Too expensive and the staff always tries to read more into it then they are qualified. They end up worrying moms needlessly.

when i was 32 weeks, i was measuring 28 weeks, and that concerned my doc. she said measuring 2 weeks bigger or smaller is typical but 4 is something to worry about. i had a scan that day and found everything is doing great...he already dropped and that caused me to measure much smaller. i'm 36 weeks and had a doc appt today, and she told me that i am measuring 34cms...which is good. 2.5 cms, 70% and -2 station...so i'm getting close!!! yay!! unless there is some type of fetal distress...ex. slower heart rate or frequent de-accelerations or if you haven't felt the baby move and they can see that the baby isn't moving, then absolutely!! they will deliver the baby...but if all seems well with the little bundle, its not likely...you'll just have a teeny tiny gorgeous baby! but give it a little time, you will be surprised at how fast they gain weight from now until delivery!! if you don't feel the baby move at least 10 times in an hour...drink some water or juice and try again...if another hour passes without 10 movements...get to the hospital...don't jump on here and ask what to do...its amazing how many people get on here and ask questions when its a real emergency. but i'm sure all is well! good luck!

1st question -- it may be a connection between you and the baby...you may not be eating enough...you could have ovulated later then you thought, you may be a month off with your "last period"...it might be something simple as those, however you did say she had not grown in a week, so that is a little cause for alarm, however the doctor is not alarmed enough to do anything YET.
2nd question--- typically unless there is stress on mom or baby they will allow the woman to go into natural labor. But they don't want to deliver before 37 wks due to the lungs and weight being the last developments. So don't plan on anything at least until that time -- if there is a major problem they will most likely set you up for delivery and keep her in the hospital for observation. Again not to worry though! {yes I know...don't worry..ugh...but the more you freak out the more tense you become and the more stress the baby is under!}

There could be all kinds of reasons for you measuring small. Your due date could be off, or she's just on the verge of a big growth spurt. This is the time where she could gain up to a half a pound a week, so she could turn out just fine. My daughter was born 3 weeks early and was only 5lbs, and if I had made it to my due date she still only would've been around 6.5lbs. But she's perfectly healthy and very beautiful. And she's pretty much caught up to other kids her age, she's even a little on the tall side. I really don't think you have much to worry about at all, she will be whatever size God wants her to be. Taking her early wouldn't be any better, just let her stay in there for a while and finish gaining weight and growing. Good luck, and congrats!!

You could have possibly dropped too, resulting in your measurment being smaller. I'm 39 weeks right now and my uterus measures 37 with a supposvly big baby. So don't fret too much about it. The ultrasound will further help the doctor determine if the baby is very small or not. More than likely he/she won't want to take the baby out early.

My daughter was measuring at 32 weeks when I was 40 weeks (although you couldn't tell by my size lol). I had to go 42 weeks before my Dr induced labor. Your baby will be fine. GOOD LUCK!

It doesn't matter, that is not always accurate, with my 1st they told me I had a small baby and he "looked" to be like 7 pds.....yeah right! he was 8lbs 5oz and then they are asking me how did i carry him! It depends on your body and how you carry and how accurate the person measuring that day is! Good luck!
