I hear about how SOME of the dems voted for it...are they blaming dems for being united with the admin 6 years ago? Or are they trying to distance themselves from a failing war? What is the point of saying who voted for it...isn't it a success to be proud of? OWN IT GOP!

folks like myself do not have a platform on the war...I am an independent. But that is usually the order of the day...ignore the question and call me a democrat.

Sjean, about HALF of the dems voted for it, and just look at the guy right above you...now you know that there are those who are proud of it. Your party cannot stand united. You reps remind me of the dems of the last 12 years..

OOPS! AH HA 7 has removed his response...well, for everyone who missed it, he stated he was proud of the Iraq invasion, and I gave him a thumbs up for being brave enough to stand behind his beliefs, if only for one minute...

No one could be proud of the colossal failure that is our little experiment in Iraq. Not even the deluded neoconservatives, who have lied to their constituency and themselves, can entertain the fantasy that we are making “progress” in Iraq. That fantasy is just too far fetch to adhere to.

Yes they can point to the overwhelming complicity coming from the Democratic Party in voting for going to war, but at least when the Democrats realized we were there under false pretenses, and that our occupation was an unwinnable situation, they had the sense to ask for a change in direction. It seems the thing any sensible group would do.

So though Democrats are culpable for the fiasco that is Iraq, they are at least working to try to rectify their part in this mistake. Republicans refuse to admit that this was a mistake at all. Instead they throw out these absurd statements like “If we don’t fight them over there they will fight us over here”, as their flimsy rationalization for “staying the course”.

I don’t like either party, but I would rather side with a party that is willing to it admit mistakes were made, and willing to make a radical change that will save the lives of our men, than a party that is so filled with pride that it cannot even concede that our incursion into Iraq was based on faulty premises, and that our strategy while there is not productive and immoral.

A party that commits a moral sin by committing our troops to a failed cause under dubious reasoning, but at the same time seeks to redress the wrong by bring our men home swiftly, so as to avoid more causalities, might be a flawed party, but one that is redeemable. However, a party that wishes to sacrifice our men, and the lives of Iraqis needlessly, just to prove a political point, is beyond redemption.

Right idea, wrong execution. We won the war, but we are losing the peace. The mistakes in Iraq began almost from the moment that Hussein and his government were toppled. As you know I am also an Independent so I won't speak for the GOP, but I will speak for myself. I do believe removing Hussein was the correct course and I do not fault Bush for undertaking the challenge. After that happened I also believed that we could not just abandon the people of Iraq, but there does come a point where our occupation must end. Today, I do not believe that we are fighting to win and I also do not believe that the administration has the will to do what it will take to win. This leaves me with serious questions about how long we plan to stay in an endless stalemate and at what point we will be willing to call it a wash and come home. More time will not make a difference in the outcome in Iraq unless drastic and bold strategies are undertaken and frankly I just don't think it is going to happen. In short, I am not trying to distance myself from the war and I have no shame for my previous support, but I am a realist and opinions do change based on events.

I don't have a problem with the Iraq invasion. Not everything is going well but then again, nothing ever does go well all the time. What I want to know is how come the Dems are so scared of doing the one thing that they can do to end the war, which is defund it? Because then they would be saddled with the failure of the US to stand up to anybody. And that, my friends, would be the death knell for them. For a long, long time.

All I keep hearing is how the Dems have screwed up this war and won't let the President do his job.Well I think Bush's veto should show who has the power in Iraq and the one with the power is the only one responsible for it's success or failure. So far I only see the F word for this mess.

They don't, they take /credit/ for it, but, when it's criticized by Dems, they feel the need to point out that Dems also supported it. Were the situation reversed, and the war popular instead of unpopular, the Dems would be trumpetting thier votes, and the Reps would be calling it political posturing.

You all are so bogus because your the biggest hypocrites; who first your for it and now your against it and will do anything and blame anybody to ease your conscience if you have one left. Grow up and quit blaming others!
The ones who are for it are all about taking on the war on terror so we own it in that we will defend are country by fighting terrorism and its supporters because we are grown up and mature enough to take on our enemies. The big question is why are the 50% who were for it and now against it changing there minds? And worse aiding and abetting the enemy with liberal policies?

No one in their right mind is proud of war. You have no sense of reality. You don't even know or understand why we are there. For you libs if it doesn't further your political career or line your pockets what good is it? You have no loyalty to America as a country. To you fighting for the rights to be free and help others to have these same freedoms is not only a waste of time but an embarrasment to you. Proven by your rant here.

The cons would only take credit for the war if we were winning it. Now that it seems to be the the general concensus that the war in unwinnable, no one will take 'credit' for it.

I don't know of anyone, con or otherwise, who would use the word proud to describe how they felt about the war. The word proud is used to describe our brave soldiers.
