My boyfriend has a 1998 Chevy S10 that the ignition went out in it. His dad and him replaced the ignition, and the new keys on it will turn like it's gonna start. Then it just stops. He is trying now to get it towed to a dealer, urgent help wanted!!!!!! Something about a passcode issue and he can't bypass it.

New cars have a built-in theft resistant feature. The key has a resistor in it that matches the computer in the car. The computer sees if you are the legitimate owner and allows the car to start. Take it to the dealer and they can program it to work.

Replacing the ignition cylinder should have no effect on the passcode system unless the tiny wires that the cylinder has on it or the wires connecting to those wires are broken. The cylinder simply reads the chip code resistance in the key and sends it to the computer which will identify if it matches the passcode resistance value.
What was the original problem? If the original problem was with the passcode system, you will have to take it to a dealer or possibly a qualified locksmith...might be cheaper.
Hope this helps, Paul
