1. It is EXTREMELY important (I personally can't stress this enough, because I had a still birth and the classic signs of not enough kicks in a certian amount of time were there... unfortunatly I wasn't seeing a good enough doctor that took me seriously)

2. You should begin counting kicks around your 28th week (babys are just too unpredictable before that point and can often kick into fluid and you won't feel as much... so you'll just drive yourself nuts before this point)

3. You should count your kicks THREE (3) times a day. In the morning (when baby is likely to be the least active), in the afternoon, and in the evening (this is generally baby's most active time of day).

4. Have a glass of juice or a small snack, lay on your left side to keep the uterus off veins and arteries that can hamper blood flow to baby... she's more likely to be more active when you lay on your left side (btw... you can sit, with a pillow under your right buttock to tilt your uterus to the left also).

5. Look at the clock and start counting kicks. Once you've reached 10 kicks you can stop... and write down how long it took to get those 10 kicks. If you haven't felt 10 kicks in the first hour of counting, get up grab a glass of juice or a high protein snack (like a granola bar, peanut butter and jelly sandwich, etc) and then lay back down. CONTINUE counting from where you left off (no need to start over).

6. If it takes LONGER THAN TWO (2) HOURS TO GET 10 MOVEMENTS CALL YOUR OB RIGHT AWAY FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS!

7. Bring your record with you to each prenatal visit and have your doctor review it. Every baby has it's own activity level. USUALLY, the baby will move more than 10 times per hour. Occasionally, less than 10 motions per hour is no reason for alarm... but your doctor will certianly want to know if there is any major change in the amount of time it takes for baby to move. If all is going well... and then the time it takes suddenly is LONGER and continues through your next kick count (ie: it usually takes baby 30 minutes to kick 10 times then suddenly it takes nearly two hours for afternoon and evening kicks) CALL YOUR DOCTOR! Likewise, if baby's movements become very WEAK and continue to be weak through two sessions of kick counts, CALL YOUR DOCTOR

My kids are really scary. They take naps for a really long time in utero and I don't feel much movement (my eldest went a whole day without waking up once). If the heart is strong, the baby may just be taking a good long nap. You can try some caffeine, an ice cold soda will sometimes inspire a little kicking. All three of my kids had at least one or two scary days when they wouldn't kick and freaked me out, they all turned out to be sleeping. You did the right thing in getting checked but if they didn't say much, call your doctor for a more complete check. Best wishes.

I would try not to worry. I am 36 weeks and my baby has never been really active. I will have one day where he is moving like crazy then the next I hardly feel him at all. My doctor said all babys are diffrent and some are just not active.
It may help you to rent a heart rate dopplar so you can check on the baby yourself. I got one from BabyFm.com and it has been a life saver to me on his inactive days. They have a 60 day minium rental time, so it would be perfect for you
