They haven't (and, it looks like they won't) made any decisions with regard to ways to end the sectarian violence plaguing their country. But they're going on vacation anyway. Is this a sign of progress? Is this indicative of a culture that is taking its obligations seriously?

Can someone tell me why we SHOULDN'T impose penalties for behavior like this?????

No, it isn;t acceptable, but I don;t blame them.. They have no reason to end the violence. We are giving them everything we have, why would they want that to end? But Bush really isn't in a position to criticize others for their vacation time. He has taken more than any other president in history. If we can extend the troops tours by 3 months, why can't we take the vacation away from the Iraqi Parliament?

I don't care what the Iraqis do... we should un-involve ourselves with them completely. The sects of Islam have been warring with themselves, each other, and their neighbors, for about two thousand years. It takes an unbelievable degree of arrogance and stupidity to think that we are going to just show up and "fix" everything. The longest standing nation in history is the Roman Empire, and these people have been fighting constantly, for exactly the same reasons, for twice as long as that nation existed. I would say that it is a safe bet that they will still be fighting long after the United States of America has become just a page in the history books.

It's not been decided that they will take time off, and it seems the US is has made it known it does not approve of this. While they should get vacation sometime, now is not that time.

When WE care more about them having the freedom to choose their own path than they do, it's time to go.
