i understand it is not a racist question
some think it has been customary for black to sing, and their usual prayers are always in a form of singing so it is a bit the same in funeral rituals

What is the point in this question? It doesn't necessarily "mean" anything....but music is a big part of church services. You have a funeral SERVICE and in all services there is singing. Songs in general have lyrics that mean something like when you are sad about a break up you might go home and play a love song, etc. The song (lyrics) may be soothing to the family and the loved ones that lost someone.....

Do white people not sing?

It's an expression of grief. Like crying. Some Asians do an elaborate ceremony with food and money. It's just a cultural expression.
They also sang as slaves. It gives emotional relief.
Negro spiritual songs
" When his mother died in 1958, Elvis Presley asked his old buddies the Blackwood Brothers to sing for her funeral his favorite songs such as "Precious Memories”, "Rock of Ages", "I Am Redeemed", "In the Garden" "Precious Lord Take My Hand". All these songs are black gospel music. Elvis Presley’s gospel background influenced his performance style and songs selection. "

black people are not the only folks that sing at funerals. In most Christian setting funerals any singing that is done is to draw attention to the Grace of God and comfort the loved ones of the departed.
I know when I die (if I die) I will be singing a new song, with those that have gone on before me, and they will be all races, and we will sing a new song that the Lord Jesus will give us, an exhaulted song of praise, and I want those left behind to sing praises to God, to sing of His mercy and grace.

Some white people sing at funerals too. When I have been to "black" funerals and heard the singing it is very comforting...It makes me feel a little better and it is a tribute to the person lost.

White people sing at funerals too.
Often times a person will request a song to be sung at their funeral - it just means that they are honoring their request- white or black or brown.

I sang at my Dad's funeral - DOH!

Means the hymn was worshipping God for the Life of a saint.

When We've been there 10,000 years
Bright shining as the sun
We've no less days to sing God's Praise
Than when we've first begun!

There are many religions and cultures that celebrate a person's life instead of suffering over their death, which has been my experience with funerals of those with different cultures.

I don't think it is just black people. It is a sign of respect. It also helps the family, by knowing that their loved one is going to a better place.
