MY 2005 HARLEY BLOWS A FUSE WHEN I USE THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THEN APPLY THE BRAKES SO THEN I HAVE NO BRAKELIGHT. THOSE ARE THE ONLY TWO THINGS THAT RUN THRU THIS 15 AMP FUSE AND THE DEALER CAN'T SPOT THE PROBLEM. I INSTALLED A 20 AMP FUSE BUT THE SAME THING HAPPENS.
CAN ANYONE HELP? THANKS

Never use a larger fuse. You remove the protection it is supposed to provide. If the fuse does not blow with the cruise control off, the problem is internal to the cruise control module. Have the dealer try a "swap test", change it for a known good one.

That's a good question, the 30k in mileage for a 2005 that price is fair enough. Sales for new Harley's were up last quarter and so were used sales at dealers. Depending on your region is everything though. August begins a stretch by dealers where they know new models are around the corner and keeping used stock on hand is something they don't want. The used market drops prices around this time of year and then the market for used just dwindles because even private sellers put away bikes for next spring. I think the mileage is too high and you could do better but (and a but you should consider) with an improved market for sales Harley is notorious for raising prices which in return will have an effect on the used sales market. It's possible prices could rise. All sorts of factors are involved. If sales increased for new then was production stalled or limited in anticipation of slower sales? A shortage of supply coupled with increased demand is a recipe Harley uses effectively. But the question is whether a glut of used bikes results because people are trading in on new? I would say it's a safe buy for the price and the mileage bugs me a tad bit, if it was 10k less in mileage I'd jump. As it is? I'd call it a fence sitter for the buyer. Factor your region though.....30k would just turn me off by itself because that's 30k of miles that I have no idea of how it was compliled and not the price at all. I'd rather see 20k in miles for 10k in price is more comfortable to me.... and I think you can find that.

I would start by checking the brake light switch. It sounds like it may be shorting out when activated, and feeding back through. The fuse then "blows" to prevent the short reaching any critical components[exactly what it was designed to do]. NEVER put in a higher amp fuse.

there is a short somewhere or the fuse wouldnt be blowing. never use a bigger fuse than the original like firecracker said, or next time, instead of the bigger fuse blowing, it could set the scoot on fire, and that is something u dont want. dc current can and will start fires. shorts can be a bi-tch to trace. now here's the thing...the road king never has had a cruise control...then or now...period.
only the ultra classic, and the road glide have cruise control. dont belive me, look up the touring models on hd's site. very plain and clear. i'd check the brake light area for a possible short first.

sounds like you might have a bare wire shorting out. It is not going to be easy to find

I think I would try a different dealer.
