This is a what has become of the American Judicial system. Any and everybody can file a lawsuit for whatever reason they feel. I was under the impression that in order for a lawsuit to even be heard it has to be a real reason (some loss or damage of property or to your person), not, because of your own personal vendettas. This case does not deserve air time or the attention that it is receiving, much less an oppurtunity to waste tax dollars and time to hear in a court. 1st of all the cleaners is only liable for the pants they lost, which they offered to pay for so what type of fraud was committed?, besides the fraudulent case that he is trying to bring against these people who are out here try to make a living. Normal people don't sue the cleaners for lose or damage of an item, they usually just ask for a refund then maybe find some place else to go. 2nd, if they found the pants and offered to return, but were refused, then offered to settle, but were refused, what more does he want? 3rd of all they held up to the responsiblity that they had for their part in the incident, but it seems as if he is just trying to make waves and collect money and that's wrong. If he gets away with this, consumers worldwide will soon be following his lead and the court systems will be flooded with all types of baseless lawsuits. Greed is the motivating factor behind all of this. How can he be entrusted to make fair and impartial decisions hearing cases for his job, if he is acting so cold hearted and malicious in his personal life. Judges are supposed to be well rounded individuals who listen to facts and draw conclusions based on the evidence, well it's evident to me that he obviously needs to re-evaluated. He knew the facts 1st hand of his situation and is dealing with these people rather harshly for what could have very well been a mixup, so it makes me question his capabilities as a judge. Even if the dry cleaners if subject to pay for the pants, they most certainly are not worth $65 million dollars, and under law fines and penalties have to be comparable to the damage or loss suffered by the plaintiff. So at most they should give him a $100 dollars for the slacks, it will probably come in handy in the near future, especially if he doesn't get reappointed. It would really serve him right if the owners' of the cleaners sued him for slander or defamation, since they will be getting alot of publicity from all of this which could potentially hurt their business, and they should be sure to throw in a lot of pain and suffering, maye they can get $65 million. All the best.

I read the article & I think that his appointment as Judge should be revoked. How can the participants in any case judged by him be satisfied with any judgement he give when he has proven for the world to see that he is impartial & unfair. There is no way I will allow him to rule on anything for me.
As u said, this is total abuse of such an honored position & it is an embarassment to the american judicial system.
It also smacks of racism & intolerance.
Anyone can tell that he believes that because he is a judge & deigns to have his suit cleaned at a small cleaning store, the owners (orientals) should feel honored that such a magnificent person are in their presence & should be bowing & scraping before him.

They ought to give the guy about 50 bucks for the pants. Make him put them on a new pair he buys with the fifty bucks and then make him bend over and kick the rear of those new pants to break them in and to indicate just how stupid the lawsuit is. That kind of sh*t is what raises the prices for the rest of us. That is why insurance costs are so high. If I were a judge and that sort of case was brought before me I would throw it out.

You know, I've met some former judges and they make some of the worst attorneys. I did a little digging and it sounds like the current judge in the case is pretty skeptical...hopefully the dry cleaner's attorney will when and possibly get an award of sanctions.
Most of the time, my profession does not deserve the reputation it has...but this case is ridiculous.

I don't get where he came up with $65 M.
In most states if a business offers you a fair settlement over a dispute and you refuse it, your case will be dismissed.
