Jupiter 63 and Saturn 57. Dr Schmitty was almost right. It was 56 for Saturn but they found a 57th a couple of weeks ago.

Still unnamed, the new moon is known as S/2007 S 1 and is ~7 kilometres in size and is 32nd in order outwards from the planet.

Neptune has 13 and Uranus 27, Mars has 2 and we have just the one. Total 163.

Jupiter and Saturn have satellites. The word "Moon" is reserved for Earth's satellite, the Moon.

Probably, there will never be an accurate count because it depends how close and how big the telescope that counts them. Jupiter has a gob of satellites that follow and lead Jupiter by 1/6 of an orbit. These are called Trojan satellites. When artificial satellites began exploring these planets, even more satellites were found.

And how would we count the tiny grains in the ring systems. They are real satellites!

GOOD LUCK!
This question has a different set of answers everywhere you look!
If this is for school, write down what moons Voyager 1 & 2 discovered, the dates and such.
Did Cassini (Saturn) discover any new moons?
Same question for the N.A.S.A. probe that visited Jupiter.

This site from Yahoo! news "NASA's probe shows Jupiter up close and personal" says that Jupiter has 16 moons: http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/reuters/070501/us/usreport_space_jupiter_dc_1

This is my result looking for how many moons does Saturn have: http://search.nasa.gov/search/search?q=saturn+moons&output=xml_no_dtd&sort=dateADALAd1&site=nasa_collection&ie=UTF-8&client=nasa_production&oe=UTF-8&proxystylesheet=nasa_production
"So far, 35 of Saturn's moons have been officially named." http://saturn.jpl.nasa.gov/science/moons/index.cfm and stuff like that.

Anyway, the site for N.A.S.A. is: http://www.nasa.gov/

Jupiter has four large moons and dozens of smaller ones (there are about 60 known moons so far).

Saturn has a lot of moons (33 discovered as of August, 2004). There are 18 named moons and about a dozen others that have not been named yet. Titan is the biggest moon.
