* There was a picture of a triangle along with this problem...AB is x....BC is z and AC is Y..

Find the exact values ( in lowest terms) of sin A and cos A using the right triangle in the box and the information x= 36, y= 60 and z= 48

a). sin A = 5/4 ; cos A = 5/3
b). sin A= 3/5 ; cos A= 4/5
c). sin A= 4/3; cos A= 3/4
d). sin A= 4/5; cos A= 3/5

The answer is D since the hypotenuse is 60 and the two legs are 36 and 48--remember that sinx=opposite/hypotenuse and cosx=adjacent/hypotenuse.

In calculating, first we need to know that
sin = opposite / hypotenuse

cos = adjacent / hypotenuse

Thus, sin A = 48/60 = 4/5

and cos A = 36/60 = 3/5

"d" is your answer for this question.
Have a wonderful weekend. I am not crazy about trig buit I would be glad to assist at any time.

The picture would help, but it can't be a) or c) because neither sine nor cosine can be greater than 1.

It depends which angle is A. Is it the angle whose opposite side is 3, with hypotenuse 5? Then the answer is b) because sin = opp/hyp = 3/5. If opposite side is 4, with hypotenuse 5, then the answer is d) because sin =4/5.

The triangle is right angled because 36²+48²=60²

So we can use the trig ratios
SIN = OPP / HYP
COS = ADJ / HYP
TAN = OPP / ADJ

In relation to angle A...
ADJACENT side is 36
OPPOSITE side is 48
HYPOTENUSE is 60

So SIN A = OPP/HYP = 48/60 = 4/5
and COS A = ADJ/HYP = 36/60 = 3/5

(answer D)

You need a calculator and some definitions of formulas. It's not hard. Revise your lessons. The hypotenuse is the longest line in your triangle and it can't be changed. Come on, you can do it.

This may help with all trigonometry questions you may have.
SOH CAH TOA
Sine=Opposite divided by hypontenuese
Cosine=Adjacent divided by hypotenuese
Tangent=Opposite divided by adjacent

Hope this helps.
