I noticed quite a lot of women do it.

I can only speak for myself:

1. That is legally my name. If I no longer want to keep it, then I would have to pay the government to do a deed poll so that I can change it.

2. I have quite a few important documents with that name.

3. I do not want to have a surname that is different from that of my daughter. In fact, if I ever get remarried, I would have her name changed to match mine.

I don't know? But, I think that when the last child is emancipated the ex by law should have to take her maiden name back! besides when you divorce you are no longer a part of the husbands life so why should they be allowed to carry the ex's last name. It should be up to the husband on wether she should keep it or not.

Most people do not stop loving their x spouse.... they don't want to be married any more because they can't trust them.... because they have been hurt by them...etc... Especially when they have children together.... this woman was a part of his life for many years.. so it's going to be normal to look for her... I do not blame you for be jealous however... your husband did not love his x enough to tollerat the abuse of her cheating on him.... He would not have gotten married to you or anyone else if he was hoping to hook back up with his X..... He is not... As for the sister.... she will end up being a part of his life one way or another especially if she is the kids aunt.... IF he is sharing pictures and news about his new life with you that's great.... See he wants her to know that he is happy and that he loves his new wife...IF he was unhappy he would not want to share any "news" of his new life.... and if he was hoping to get back with his x he would keep the News non existant.... with I made a mistake thrown here and there... he is not...who knows maybe it can reach a point where your going to feel confident enough to be "friends" for the kids sake as well as your own sanity.

They have a legal right to both names. I am keeping my ex's last name because it is my son's name. Plus, everything I have accomplished over the years - school and work - has been with that name. So why change it?

Too lazy and cheap to change their names back that's why both times I've been married I kept my maiden name and just hyphenated that just made the transition easy when i divorced to drop my ex-husbands last name and resume using my maiden name

Not all ex-wifes do this. Sometimes it's not to confuse the children. If there aren't children than maybe it's not worth the time to change it. Don't you think it depends on the circumstance. I intend on getting a divorce soon and believe me his name is being dropped. Sur and all baby.

Sometimes, when the couple had been married for a long period of time, it's difficult to go back to your maiden name. Some use it because of the children and some use it just because. My sister had been married to her husband for eleven years with four children with him. She hyphenated her married name to her maiden name, which made it easier for her checks, bills, etc.

Usually, if they have kids they will keep the surname. Also, it is a pain in the butt to change your name...changing it the first time was probably a pain, changing it back if you don't have to, why bother.

Some do it because it is a pain the a@## to keep changing your name on your drivers license, social security card, credit cards, etc. Some do it because they never LIKED their maiden name in the first place.

I kept mine so my daughter and I would have the same last name. I am re-married and hyphenate my ex's last name. When I am dealing with her school, doctors etc... I use that name.

For the kids, would be one reason.
