I would suggest getting an add-in graphics card as well. For games you will want at least 128MB of RAM (minimum). Not only will you be freeing up more system RAM, but graphics cards tend to have better driver support for games (full support for OpenGL and DirectX standards) so less problems than onboard which are mainly just there to do display and run 3D games as a sidenote. Your motherboard has an AGP slot so you will need an AGP graphics card. I would recommend NVIDIA cards in the GeForce 6 or 7 series if possible. ATI cards in the 9xxx series or higher are also good. Basically any video card with Direct X 9 support should be able to run most games. The cheaper cards around $50-$90 won't run as fast (but still better than onboard) as the $150 and higher priced cards, but you should at least be playable if you're on a budget.

Also upgrading to 1GB of system RAM should make a noticeable difference for games.

Additional note: Actually, the amount of video card memory has less to do with overall game performance than the power of the GPU (graphics processor). Graphics memory is used mainly to handle textures in games (skins on 3D models and such) so the more you have, the less memory swapping (which causes slowdown) is required by your PC. Onboard video does not have a very power graphics processor capable of powering intensive 3D games so that would be another benefit to using an add-in graphics board.

I should also add that judging by your motherboard (which is a VIA KM chipset with an Athlon or AthlonXP class CPU), you should still be able to run games like World of Warcraft or Half Life 2 at decent speeds with a good card so you don't need a full upgrade to the highest end gear to enjoy those games now if you have a video card such as a Radeon 9600 Pro or a GeForce 6600GT. Of course you can always shell out $1500 on a new dual core rig with all the latest gaming hardware, but if you are just trying to squeeze out some more juice from your current PC to run games that need 64MB of graphics RAM, then it is definitely possible on your setup just by adding a graphics card and doing a few in game performance tweaks.

Its not the question of system sharing the video memory its the requirements of the AGP card with atleast of 128 mb or 256 mb adpg card is the requirements for the games to play . The mother board should also be able to support the adp card and it should have the agp slot on the MB it is with the Brown in clour Then only you can play games.

a 64mb onboard video memory is not good enough for gaming but not bad also. you are not just up-to-date

with the latest gaming requirement such as full support for OpenGL and Direct3D.your asus a7v400 MX/SE

has a AGP slot in it.i would recommend you to get a new graphics card for quenching your thirst for the

latest games. i feel that Nvidia's GeForce 5200 FX or ATI's Radeon X700 would be a cheap and high

performance graphics card for you . these graphics card are featured with 128 Mb of RAM and many more

such as :110 million transistors on 0.11 micron fabrication process ,64/128-bit memory interface

,supporting DDR SGRAM, DDR SDRAM, GDDR3 SDRAM ,AGP 8x or PCI Express® x16 lane native support ,Video

In/Video Out board versions .............................

these cards range is within Rs 2000 incl VAT

I think you are using on-board graphic card. You can play some games with your current system but for heavy gaming and good graphics you need high-end system.

Configuration for playing now-a-days games:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4 3.0 GHz or more
Motherboard: Motherboard which have PCIe or AGP Slot from any company like Intel, Mercury, Gigabyte, etc.
RAM: 1 or 2 GB DDR or DDR2
Graphic Card: Latest Card from nVidia
HHD: As much as possible
400 Watt or more SMPS, DVD - ROM, DirectX 9.0c or more

You are using the onboard video, which is never as good as a standalone video card. I would suggest getting a separate video card and disabling your onboard video (not only will you get better video, but you will free up 64MB of RAM too).

If I understand you correctly, what I think you need is at least a 128MB video card. 64MB sounds kind of low for playing games on your PC..... it might do for SOME games, but not most.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
