Don't the Post office do a bog standard, basic bank account now? Or was that another New Labour idea that came to nothing?

All the high street banks offer basic accounts which are subject to less stringent checks. These will usually only allow you to deposit and withdraw the money you have and no more.
The Post Office account is only for benefit payments.
Regarding your creditors, I suggest you contact either your local Citizens Advice Bureau or the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) who will help you to come to an arrangement with them so that you can pay back as little as you can afford. I know someone who is paying off debts at £1 a MONTH so it is worth doing.
Running away is not a solution, and by managing the debts, you avoid the risk of bailiffs etc.

I'm sure you will be able to open a basic savings account with no credit facility - overdraft/cheque book/debit card etc.
Doing so shouldn't put you in a position where your other creditors are more able to track you down to harrass you for payment - but don't count on it.
You do have to declare your other bank accounts on the application for your new account (even though it may be with a different lender) - if you don't, it's less likely that the other lenders will find you - but on the other hand - if you don't you could go to jail for failure to disclose relevant information.
Hmmmmmm, I know what I'd do....but what will you decide ??

No one can 'guarantee' you a Bank Account (although I bet you will find a good few people here willing to take your money in exchange for a 'guarantee')
Suggest you do some research & apply to those that seem to be the most sympathetic - Co-op Bank is said to be reasonable about offering 'basic' accounts ..

All banks and building societies are obliged to give you a bank account if you do not have one elsewhere. If you do, they are under no obligation to give you one. There is a question on the application asking if you have any other bank accounts elsewhere. If you state you dont then they have to give you a cashcard account. You dont have to declare a bank account to your creditors but if its bankruptcy you are going through then you would need to declare it to the bankruptcy auditors if you are getting money paid into it that you havent declared.

commonly you require a uk address to carry a uk economic organisation account. to diminish down on move prices, your economic organisation at homestead should be able to furnish you a Sterling account, thet you will pay Sterling into and out of with no need to pay overseas money prices.

i think your best bet is to apply at a local brnch and dont ask them for any overdrafts most of the time they just ask for aproff of adrress and a passport etc. but if you do it online you will never get a account
ps.try natwest there great in these kind of things but dont tell them that you have bad credit
