Excessive immigrants??

I live in a medium sized town like 120,000 population. In a day I see Nigerians, people from the Balkans, Laos, the standard assortment of Mexicans and latin americans. What I am asking is how many different types can this country import and still function? If we all have different languages and varying interest levels in learning a common language will we run into basic language barrier problems that breakdown society???

I would assert that we could - and should - 'import' as many different 'types' of legal immigrants as possible. When you have immigrants with diverse languages and cultures coming to one country, the thing they have in common is the language and culture of thier adopted land. Thus, they assimilate, and the culture of thier new land grows and changes as a result.

That's more desireable than having most or all immigrants coming from one other country, or a few different countries with the similar languages and cultures. Large communities of immigrants with the same language and similar cultures will find more in common with eachother than with the people of the country they have come to and are less likely to assimilate into that society, and more likely to be at odds with it.

First of all, where did you and so many people get the idea that America is for only white people? America is made up of all races and ethnicities. The country was built on immigrants. Unless you are Native American, your family also came from another country. In addition to that, it is shocking to see how many Americans do not know the difference between a legal immigrant and an illegal immigrant. Hence, this backlash against all immigrants as if they are causing the downfall of America. Before you and all the other complainers begin to whine about foreigners in the US, you need to control your children better and make sure that they show more appreciation for the US educational system which is abundantly funded even though Americans persist in blaming schools and teachers for their failing. How is it that so many poor foreign people are able to attend those same schools and do so well? I was in a hospital recently and noticed that most of the medical staff including doctors, were Chinese, Korean, Indian, Jamaican, Haitian, Nigerian, etc. Rest assured that they were not practicing medicine because someone handed them a diploma because they were foreigners. Those people either came to America already highly skilled, or in many cases, they made use of the opportunities they saw and obtained their skills and college degrees with a lot of hard work and sacrifice. Instead of complaining, a lot of Americans need to stop and look around at all the wonderful opportunities that exist for their benefit: Free schools, sophisticated equipment, great books, well trained teachers, free meals (and yes, everyone can get free meals, in most public schools in America.) Look at how the cards are stacked in your favor and try to figure out why you cannot succeed while they do. While you seem to be blaming foreigners for creating a barrier, I would suggest that the only barriers are laziness, ignorance, prejudice and intolerance for others. The commonality should be that we are all human beings and we all have a right to survive.

It's possible but not very likely because i'm sure there going to make a law one day that u have to learn english to get into this country kinda like the cab drivers in China, were there going to have the olympics, they made it manditory that they start to learn english and so did korea i believe. What will make this country break down is having way to many illegal's here because they take all the bottom low paying jobs--We need these jobs to for example fast food restaruants, grocery stores--screw the list it's way to long but anyways the jobs are made for people who do not have a high school diploma, these r the only jobs that they can get now but now they can't even get thows jobs anymore and that's why poverty is going skyward now.

i'm not an economist or a politician but just like everything, a growing city will always have a POSITIVE outcome and a NEGATIVE outcome.

The positive outcome can be a growing industry, more houses, more jobs, a broader targeting media (eg. spanish languaged tv channels like univision help bring more latin cored products)

The negative outcome will be crime, drugs, prostitution, in some cases inflation and in really bad cases, the collapse of the same city/state/nation.

but i am not against immigrants. i support them because they are the social base of our country: the lower middle class that work 8 to 12 hours a day for 7 - 9 dollars an hour.

nope, more and more people are learning english as their primary language....not just the mexicans, but all of the immigrants.....and on top of that, if it ever came to the point where there could be a breakdown in the society, the immigrants that couldnt speak english would prolly be refused service and other things to pressure them.

If they want to be in the US they must do so legally. Once they are here they should assimilate our culture and not vice versa. Otherwise we are in danger of losing our unique national identity.
