My bff is 14 and her mom takes her out of school to babysit her little brother who is 2years old. I think that its wrong, she has done this 18 times this year and if she misses 3 more days of school than she won't pass. Do you think this is wrong or is it only me??

You have a good head on your shoulders - use it to help your friend. Go to your guidance councilor and tell them just what you told us. Even if there are reasons or there's some hardship going on, maybe the councilor can help.
bbf's like you can sometimes be more "grown" up than parents.

That's very wrong. The mother is putting out the message that education is not important. If she could not handle having another child and making sure someone could watch it while she is unavailable, it is not right for her to burden her other child with this stress. I would say something to a teacher and hope that the mother gets some parenting classes.

This could be considered as some form of neglect. You and your friend should look into that. Your friend, who is 14, should not be missing school because a parent cannot take care of their own child. The 14 year old is STILL a child and should therefore not be considered the "house slave" so-to-speak.

No it is not right. It is wrong and the mother needs to find another person to watch her son when she is at work and her daughter is at school. Just tell your friend to get used to being in the same grade next year. She won't finish school at this rate. Report the mom to CPS.

well, i think its wrong....now you friend is going to suffer the consequences of babysitting during school hours.....are they low income or something and that is why the mom can not pay a sitter. there are public places where if the mom/dad or both work they can take their kids there (almost like pre-school) but they baby sit them & in some cases if you are low income they will do it for free!! hope this helps

It's not wrong if she leaves for an hour or less about once weekly. I get out of school every Tuesday forty-five minutes early to go to piano lessons because that is the only time my teacher has open (she's very "popular"). My 11 year old cousin gets out of school a half hour early on Thursdays to go to her company dance lessons that are a long drive away. But if it is excessive, then yes. It's wrong. But it is her parents' choice what they do and when they pull their daughter out of school, so I wouldn't suggest getting caught up in it.

It is wrong, and the mom should be ashamed of herself! The only way your friend will be able to complete her education this year is to tell her counselor what's going on. Her mom does not have the right to take her daughter's education away from her! Shame on that woman! Annie

that's stupid. She's not a very responsible mother! I can't believe a mother would do that type of thing! What the hell? At 14, you're supposed to enjoy your life and not have any worries or cares and just got to school! What the hell?!
