Like Rosie O'donnel, she has done nothing great, neither has most celebs. They put on a show in the public eye, then they sit back and wait on the media to advertise them until we're sick of it.

You do have a point there but there are some people who really deserve the recongition but they don't get it like .....you know local heroes but they haven't influenced the world but they have influenced the place where they live which is more than what celebs do...It's the world we live in...people pratically worship celebs...

Celebs are influential...in a positive and negative manner.
In the 90's people were crazy to copy jennifer aniston's hair style, why is that?
So its only obvious that if you're in a position where you have fame and money, you are going to influence people by your words or your deeds.
But not all celebs do their charity work in the face of a camera, Oprah donates a lot of money to charity but we don't know about all of it, Celine Dion is another constant donor....
Some do it in front of the media for the public to see and become aware of the problem and also seek to help to do something about it.

Well when i was nine i lost all my hair and i thought natalie portman was so pretty and i really wanted to be like her so it gave me something to think about. I did not get as sad a i could have because it gave me something to look up too. it is 8 years later and i still lover her!

Audrey hepburn i think did really care about other people. She did a lot in her life time. During the war she raised money for the jews and when she was old she helped with the poor in poor countries

It's because they decided to go into show business and managed to get on TV. It doesn't matter who you are, but if you do something stupid or say something controversial on television, people will discuss it (and them). The people who agree with them make them instant celebrities. The people who get offended by them make them instant celebrities. A villain or a hero is born and we're the only ones to blame. Humans are just attracted to this sort of outside conflict, so they can forget about their own worries; or be inspired; or feel less alone; etc.

The higher the earning of a celebrity, the more likely they will create non-profit organizations to help others.
They also help raise money and influence people for candidates. ie, would you vote for someone if Sylvester Stallone or Roseanne Barr endorsed them?

You don't have to do anything "great" to be influential. Some celebrities influence weak minds to do foolish things, like taking drugs or alcohol. Celebrities have influenced people to follow false causes like global warming.

Some celebrities influence people to give to their favorite causes like Unicef or Peta.
