Have any of you been treated badly in the ER? I just was and I need to vent. i haven't felt the baby move since Friday night and I took alot of cold medicine, so i was getting a little worried. i had a doctors appointment on Monday and they heard the heart, but still, the baby hadn't moved for almost a week now. So i call the OBGYN office to talk to them about it and they said i could come in for a fetal heartrate check. I get there, the nurse is checking and checking and she can't find a heartrate. FINALLY she finds it way over on the left side. She leaves to get the doc, cuz by law, he has to see me since it's the ER. He comes in and proceeds to chew my a** for coming in to the ER!!!!!! Telling me that that's why there is such a problem with the health care system and insurance industry and that the emergency room is not to be used for emotional reasons. He chews my a** until I am CRYING. What would you all have done? I cried, hung my head, and left

I would report him immediately. He should not treat a patient like that and I'm sure you aren't the first to be treated like that from him.

Call the hospital and ask to speak or leave a message with the ER chief of staff about the doctor. You were told to go get checked out! You weren't there for an emotional reason it was a real medical concern and that is what the ER is for. I would also tell your OB about the other doctor's behavior. That was uncalled for! Doctor's like that are what is wrong with the health care profession, not the patients. I bet he has had a number of malpractice suits and complaints!
Good luck and remember not all doctors are the sweet pleasant kind!

I would've immediately asked to see whoever was in charge. If you know his name, make a formal complaint with the hospital. There is no reason for that kind of awful behavior. If he doesn't want to deal with panicked patients, he shouldn't work in the ER. The OB will tell you if the baby isn't moving that you need to be seen - you did the right thing by going in, no matter what some doctor said.

I swear some of these doctors/nurses are ridiculous. Two of the three times I've gone into labor and delivery to be checked out I've been treated like crap. And they wonder why some people are so hesitant to go to the doctor!

depending on how far along you are and if this hospital has a maternity dept the er doc never should have seen you..you should have been sent to the labor and delievery floor..at least that is what is done here...if you ever need to go again for care make sure the place you go to has an L&D unit because they are the ones trained to handle pregnancy situations..sure the regular er also can but the trained maternity unit is always the best option

people also need to learn to become there own advocates and speak up there and then if something isn't right..if you do not advocate for yourelf no one else will

You should report him to the hospital's supervisor of that department as well as personal relations department. No one has the right to make you feel bad for being a concerned mother. That is your child, don't let any one tell you that you are wrong to check out a problem. I would not set back and take that abuse. You should even refuse payment to this doctor. In most areas you get 2 seperate bills one from the ER and one from the Dr. Don't give that butthole a penny!

Mistake # 1-- Shew his A* S out - # 2 That,s the reason why YOU pay INSURANCE - # 3 If you have a D*M problem you can step out and I will see someone else sometimes you have too teach people how to respect you, Now take a big breath and chill it's over now..( don't let anyone disrespect you if you din,t go too the ER and something was wrong they would be ready to put you behind bars.) happy pregnancy

First of all you are a mother its your job to protect you baby and make sure everythings okay. Doctors aren't always right and some arent very comforting either. I dont blame you for going in and making sure everything was okay that shows that your a great mother who cares.I hope that he was just an ER doctor and not your OB because if he is your ob I would suggest switching doctors.I probablly would have chewed him out he gets paid for going in and checking you.
Good luck and dont feel bad one bit.

I would file a report against him.
Im so sorry you had to go through that.

You did the right thing, screw him. HES the problem with the health system.

Personally - i would have laid into him, but thats just how I am. I would have retaliated right there, but that just puts added stress on a preggie.

I truly hope your baby is doing well and you are able to shrug this off. But I would definitely report him to the hospital administrator.

Best of luck doll!

Let me tell you, he was rude and wrong for yelling at you...and a DR is no better then you or I...and you didn't deserve this. You should call and complain to the hospital ASAP.

BUT- you should've called your Ob-Gyn first, before coming to the hospital. This is the reason why...he/she would've told you to go to the hospital...he/she would've called ahead...to either the ER or maybe even sent you directly to L&D...they would've known you were coming and everyone would've been happier...

Next time, any problems...just call your OB ahead of time...let them know. Works better all the way around...

Sorry you got treated like this....makes DR's look bad!

I would like to beat his *** for that. You are worried about your baby's life and he has the nerve to treat you like that. You need to hold your head up and report him. Do not ever allow someone to treat you that way again. You deserve respect. You are not a burden on the health care system at all. Call the hospital and complain that was enough emotional trauma to cause you to cry and at the least they should not send you a bill.

Call the hospital's main number and ask to speak to the Patient Representative. Tell him/her what, when and who
did this to you.
If you don't feel the baby move for over an hour, after sitting/lying quietly and concentrating on it, you ALWAYS go to get it checked! Daytime - call doc's office; nighttime/weekends - ask his service where to go.
How many weeks are you? if more than 32 weeks you should go to L&D and get monitored. Call the Doc first so he can tell them you're coming.
