.....Karla, it's a great quote...a lot of wisdom there. You can learn from mistakes, but just making the mistake isn't enough to learn from it. Learning from experience requires that you reflect on it...
- What happened
- Why
- Consequences
- What you might do differently in a similar situation in the future
Then the trick is to learn from your mistakes and failures as you try to do better...keep trying to do better, don't give up just because you're frustrated.

I'll give you a star, because it makes me reflect. I find that quote too "absolute" for me. I honestly don't believe in "mistakes," (as a start), since we seldom know if what we view as a "mistake" truly was, if we track the consequences. For example, if I hadn't taken that job, I'd never have felt so much frustration, yet, I wouldn't have met that person who took me on other paths...& this depends on how we perceive our "past," & whether we find the balance in it. Secondly, we can never "prepare" for the future; we can give it thoughtful consideration, but life is very serendipitous (that's the fun in it) so, "learning from the past" in both contexts would be impossible. As for living in the present--that's a whole different ball game. The present is all we "have" in the sense of living it as fully as possible, while the past is obscure (at best) shadows, & the future is unknown.

I like this quote so much. This really mens something.
"learn from the past"
It just means if you need something in the past you didn't like, learn from it and don't make the same mistake.
"prepare for the future"
prepare for you're future so you won't make a decision you don't like
"live the present"
Have fun at what you're doing. Live every second of the present, because if you don't it's going to be to late and the present will become the past.
Well thats what I think it means.

Well, no quote is true, but it does offer some insight. Learning from your past is important, dwelling in it is dangerous. Preparing for the future is essential if you wanna go somewhere positive you need to know where youre going. and living in the present is my motto, because thats all we have is the here and now..what s happended cant be changed, whats gonna happen can only be hoped and planned for, but what IS happening matters the most, because thats where YOU are. Emotionally, physically..etc.

welcome to the club sister. How does an ex-alcoholic, ex-drug user, ex-anger mismanager, and all around mess-up become a success. I'm livin proof that us because i LEARN from my past, use those things to PREPARE for a different future and LIVE life like it's Golden. who in this world has never made a mistake. No one. therefore we all get 2nd, 3rd, and 2millionth chances to do it again. the best way to correct a problem is to not focus on the problem focus on the soultion.
My father once told me that if you'r e a liar, don't focus on Not Lying. Focus on telling the truth.
Focus on the solutions, hun.

Sounds good to me Karla. But I've lived with that for more than forty years, so a star isn't in the equation. Something more original will get a star from me. The problem here is that very little I've seen is original.
But keep the proverb at your side all your life. It will do you better than a super nova would.

All you can do is what you can. If you miss correcting something ask forgiveness and go on. The past can't be changed.
I'd give you a star if I knew how to do it.

Yes Dear,
The Statement makes perfect sense.....
A short story of someone that I know very well (I would call it A FATAL MISTAKE)
One of that Fine Gentleman's fatal MISTAKES OF HIS PAST WAS / IS / WILL EVER BE that he got married to a Very Fine Lady that he did not really love...
Proceeded with their life together as a husband & a wife however life was treating them both all those long years they had lived together, that Gentleman had always been haunted with the feeling that HE NEEDED SOME OTHER WOMAN IN HIS PRESENT LIFE ALL THE WAY THROUGH....From day one till now...
This is how he LIVED IN ALL HIS PRESENT TIME, based on the MISTAKE OF HIS PAST...
Deciding to finaly get married to another woman that he thought he had loved so much after such a long number of years living with the First Wife...that Gentleman took an initiative (POLYGAMMY IS ALLOWED) and proceeded with the concept of wanting to live the kind of life he had always dreamt of with his other beloved one; imagining he is GETTING PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE correcting the mistake of that PAST and the thoughts that controlled him at that remote PRESENT of his previous life......
Two years later (We are in the future now), that posotive initiative of his turned out to be another fatal mistake...and he thought he did a bigger mistake in his "NEAR" PAST once again, and had also realized how miserable was his "supposedly beautiful" PRESENT, so he looked into the FUTURE again, and decided to divorce the Second Wife while still keeping the First Wife and the family... and by the way he had SIX SONS...!!!
NOWADAYS HE STILL LIVES WITH HIS MISERABLE PRESENCE BECAUSE OF THE SAME OLD MISTAKE OF THE PAST THAT HE CREATED THE FIRST TIME....... AND HE HAS NO MORE BRIGHT FUTURE TO LOOK FOR ANY LONGER...
Bottom Line..
Once you have a life...There will always be A PAST, A PRESENT AND A FUTURE no matter how you look at the concept of the THREE TENSES...
That man thought he learned from his mistake in the PAST...
And because of that feeling of such a mistake, he had to live a MISERABLE PRESENT...And he kept looking to the FUTURE...
Yet he acted...and again...he did a mistake WHILE TIME IS STILL GOING ROUND & ROUND...Past..Present..Future... restlessly on him...
So it doesn't matter how you look at those tenses, nor does it matter what the kind of a mistake you had done was, or whether your story is similar to or dissimilar from others' stories.......
The Questions are :
Does that man stand a chance to Learn from the past ??
Would he be willing to prepare for the future again??
Can he really live his present the way he likes ??
SOMETIMES IT IS DIFFICULT TO DEAL WITH CONSEQUENCES OF SOME MISTAKES...
He did learn from the Past, but it is too late...
He thinks the Future is longer for him...
He knows he still lives with misery...
AND HE KNOWS HE WAS / IS / WILL EVER BE A LOOSER....
So for those of you who have made a (reasonable mistake) (NOT A FATAL ONE) please try to learn and do it right next time WHILE YOU HAVE A CHANCE...so you better learn from the past....to live a happy present...with a bright look into the future...
Therefore, the Statement of our Lady Friend is very much true...
LEARN FROM THE PAST
PREPARE FOR THE FUTURE...
LIVE IN THE PRESENT...
No matter what we are talking about.....it works for all I am sure...
But for those who particularly look into Social Life issue in relation to that Statement.......My advice to you:
DON'T BE LIKE THAT GENTLEMAN WHO EVENTUALLY DECIDED & TOOK AN OATH "WHEN IT IS HIS SONS TURN TO GETTING MARRIED, HE WILL MAKE DAMN SURE HIS SONS ADORE (not only love) THOSE LADIES THEY WOULD SELECT AS FUTURE, LIFE-TIME WIVES OF THEIRS....... with that man aiming to see to it non of his six sons repeat Dad's Fatal Mistake...
END OF MY STORY....
