If your goldfish lives in a large tank (10 gallons or more) there is enough water surface for air exchange so the oxygen supply should be okay. However, without a filter you would have to clean the tank very regularly, every few days. This stresses your goldfish, so I don't know how long your fish will live under those conditions. Be sure to use distilled water, not tap water, when you change the water. Good luck.

The best way to keep a fish's tank oxygenated w/out the help of a filter is to change the water in the tank every 2-3 days depending on the size of the tank and the ammount of fish living in the tank.

Hope this was helpful.

A goldfish doesnt need a filter or oxygen they are the carp family. They can get really cold and still live too. They are a hardy fish. Just keep the water clean and keep them fed. Although they will probably live happier and longer with a filter to keep the tank clean and maybe an airstone or something.

You need to use the very largest container possible for your fish and change all of the water every few days until such time as you can get a filter or air pump and sponge filter at the least.

An unfiltered, unaerated goldfish bowl is a horrible environment for a goldfish long term.

Change out about half of the water in the bowl once a day or so. You might want to buy some Stress Coat or Water Treatment too make sure the water is neutral.

Gold+Bowl=Torture.

Goldfish will not have enough room to grow in a bowl, and their organs will out grow their bodies.

And they really need a filter. They make to much waste, it's toxic if not filtered.

Please, for the sake of the goldfish, get a bigger tank!

I love them a lot. They can survive in cold water & less oxygen. Make sure u leave half the tank empty for enough oxygen to prevail. Don't tap or try to catch it with ur hands. They r very sensitive & they die with fear. If one of the pair dies then the other too would die. So get another partner immediately. But it is very intresting..

Have a wonderful time.

Goldfish can live just fine without either a filter or oxygen,
this is why you often see just goldfish bowls. I have one and he does alright and seems very healthy.
