I have 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited V8. I put new pads and rotors on the front, and new drums and shoes in the back. After this was done you sometimes feel the whole jeep shake when applying the brakes. Also the left front brake got real hot and started smoking. I have now had the brake hoses and calipers changed also. I drove it about 1/2 mile and the left front brake smells hot and is smoking again. What else would cause this everything has been replaced within 3 days time. I have had it checked by a different shop and the said everything looks good and their should be no problem.

I would pass this question by, but noboby has mentioned the most obvious, and most likely problem. You probably have a sticking brake caliper. Many shops nowdays wont even do a brake job without replacing these. Some Dodges- I think early '90's came from the factory with some kind of plastic composite pistons in the calipers. These get grooved, and can stick. I have replaced many of these for that reason. Not saying that yours are plastic, as I'm not sure, but my first guess is a caliper. By the way... spraying your brakes with water when they are smoking hot can crack the brake rotors, so if it's not on fire, probably a bad idea. If the brakes have gotten that hot, it should be looked at. Most shops (not dealerships)will look at brakes for free, as they make their money by repairing things they find. Good luck with it.

A shop shouldn't have any problem test driving the car after a repair. Is the brake smoking for you but not them? Take the mechanic for a ride and show him it's not your imagination.

Sounds like that caliper is frozen. The caliper needs to be able to slide back & forth. The bolts that anchor it to the spindle go through sliders that need to be clean & well lubed. The rotor is sure to be warped if the caliper is locked up causing your shake.

ok heres the deal the left front flexable brake line is either clogged or twisted so the fluid cant move back -ie sticking caliper a new brake hose installed properly should do the trick

I'd call Cartalk on Saturday mornings at 10 am off NPR radio. They'd know.
