I have been keeping Piranhas for quite some time now. There are 4 of them in a 3'X 1.5'X 1.5' aquarium. I feed them with live fish or beef heart or mutton liver. The problem is live feeding fish is hard to get. So I have resort to the liver most often. This is ruining my aquarium water. Does anybody have any idea where can I get good Piranha food. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The liver pollutes the water. If you are not staying in a flat it
would be better to have a common guppy tank. A big cement garden pot with out leaks will save space. Guppies breed fast and you need to wait till the population builds up. Some of the guys I know even breed any common live bearers like mollies etc as feed for the big ones like Pirhana, Arrowanas and Oscars.

Note that this is a long term solution
and you will have to sweat it out initially. Later you can go for a
balanced feed of live fish and liver based on availability.

hope it will help u.

As you are seeing liver is a generally bad choice for fish food. Fouls the water fast and is full of fats that the fish can't well digest. I would suggest two things you can add to the rotation of foods. Earthworms and fish fillets. It took my piranha a few tries to get used to the fillets, but once they were, they ate it very well. Worms they grabbed up from the very first feeding.

Worms are cheap at the bait shop or even Walmart these days. I was able to make a deal with my local grocery store manager and buy the 1 day out of date fish very cheap.

It might be worth you setting up a smaller tank and ordering feeder fish from a wholesaler if it is difficult to get them through stores in your local area. Have you tried bait stores? Also if you dont want to feed liver all the time you may look into small pieces of frozen fish and shrimp to help cut down on the messy water. Good Luck!

if your local pet store doesn't have it or know anyone who does, then your s_it out of luck! I had a Pacu for several years and fed him feeders, hamburger, steak, drained canned mixed vegetables and had a dirty tank also, i just upgraded the filter system and did proper water changes and everything was fine. You try!
