You are fine, I'm also 39 weeks and am feeling the same thing. What you are going through right now is actually working on your cervix. You are not in labor, you would need to get to the hospital if it was your water or you were finding it very difficult to walk and your contractions were getting a million times worse.
But yeah, I've been having that for about 2 weeks now. They have been horrible, but they've worked my cervix down to 75 percent effaced and 1.5 cm dilated. So you are changing on the inside, you are effacing more than likely. Once you are completely effaced you'll be pretty much ready to pop your baby out.
It's normal, you are just opening up down there.

Yes, it is normal. The closer labor gets, the more intense these "practice contractions" get. Some women will dialate slowly over the last several weeks of pregnancy, others just up and start labor! If your contractions are 5mins or less apart for an hour while resting, you need to either call your ob or head to the er. Do not wait for your water to break before taking action. Less than half of all women have this happen on their own.

You should get a notetablet, a pen and a clock. Then lay down on your bed in which ever way is comfortable and start writing the exact time you get a stomach pain. Also, it is a good idea to have someone there with you in case you are in need of a lift to hospital. If it has been two days since your last visit, you may also wish to call your doctor and let him know what your feeling, he may wish to check you again. You may be in real labor this time.
p.s. add me so I can find out later what you have. Good luck and I will light a candle for you and baby and say a blessing prayer for you both. :)

30 weeks here baby dropped 3 weeks ago. Sounds like pretty normal Braxton-Hicks, you will definitely be able to tell the difference. The sharp pains are your ligaments stretching to prepare your body for birth. I have all the same symptoms, but this is my third child so no big deal.

It is normal, I think I asked a similar question like this a few days ago. lol
Anyway, basically, your uterus is probably dilating now. Just keep walking. But also, brazton hicks can hurt more if you are not drinking alot of water. So, if you are walking and maybe breaking a sweat, add a few glasses of water to your normal amount.

You could very well be contracting, dilating and effacing! Time your contracts to see if there is any consistantcy. If you begin to get worried, give your doctor a call and see what they tell you. Good Luck!

When my braxton hicks started feeling crampy, I took extra calcium. It caused them to be painless once again. Try practicing your labor relaxation techniques with them. That should help too.

Real labor pains will make it so you can't move, kind of stop you in your tracks and it's hard to breath through them. It is probably worth putting a call in to the doctor's office and letting them know what is happening so that you can be reassured.
