If I were you I would uninstall everything from HP and reinstall only the drivers for your device.
HP is notorious for using too many system resources...the updates just compound the softwares redundancies.
Good Luck!

Try doing the system restore in Safe Mode (restart PC it F8). If that still doesn't work perform a system recovery (save your work first), with this it will restore your computer to the maufacturer's state.
You should only update drivers or download updates that you NEED. It sounds like a combatibility issue, some of the updates may be for the wrong OS or drivers.
Contact HP or try realy hard to do a restore or recovery.

Updates are a mixed blessing, generally if it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. You need updates that address security issues, and perhaps upgrades that add some feature you haven't got and want. Otherwise leave well alone, and always do upgrades one at a time, testing after each one. In your case you might well be looking at restoring to the factory built condition and putting things back one at a time. I hope you have a good back-up

OOoo same thing happened to me! You need to fetch an online chat with an HP rep. They are very helpful, and willing. Go to support.hp.com and negotiate around to find the "contact us" stuff and negotiate around until you can find the "chat with an online rep" (it's not always easy to find, and they change their website now and then...). But again, they're willing and able to help, and if you can give them your symptoms, they'll give you links where you can download different versions of drivers and fix the problem! (Be prepared with model number, serial number, and all that crap...)

If you are using NT, 2000 or XP boot up in safe mode. Remove the offending drivers and reboot.
If all else fails, back up your data whilst in safe mode. Reformat and rebuild... You do have backups and originals disks. Don't you?
