Yesterday I hosted a veto rally in my hometown. I feel passionate about my desire to see a timeline for withdrawal of troops in Iraq...EVEN IF that timeline for withdrawal is TWO YEARS or so from now. It seems hopeless to have no plan for an end--especially with major combat actions being over for this long. I am connected to 250+ local democrats and republicans who feel the same way about Iraq--and I urged each of them to attend our rally. Five of 250+ actually showed up. I have concluded that it is "cool" to dislike this president. There seems to be millions out there who blog about demanding a change in our current agenda--but when it comes time to ACT people cower.

I'll be sending out a newsletter later today...and I want to add a few words that challenge people to take thier views seriously. I want to put out a message that you shouldn't just TALK about wanting change. ACT! Any ideas on a few words to get my point across...positively but firmly?

you can't have a timetable for withdrawal it puts our troops at risk it has to be done in a timely manner in say a three month span but without the enemy knowing its coming

Personally my opinion is that this country has way too much freedom. People whine and complain about things then if someone exercises their "free speech" right by referring to a group of people as "you people" suddenly there is a racial arguement there. Yes let's withdraw the troops from Iraq. Then the Iraqis can see that America can bust up the place then not stick around to clean it up. Let's say the war is lost. After all, Sadaam is still alive and ruling in terror. Don't forget to rally when the troops come back about the war being lost, I'm sure they'll want to hear you saying the war "we fought" was lost while you are sitting in your air-conditioned house without someone shooting at you. Looks like someone has forgotten how they felt the morning of 9/11. Look at Germany during the Holocaust. Did you ever think that people would ever voluntarily go to Germany on vacation today? One day people will be able to walk freely in Iraq and know they have civilization and a prosperous government. If feel so passionate about withdrawing the troops why dont you enlist and go over there to help speed this up?

Maybe the failure of your "veto rally" was due to the fact that a lot of people like to think that it is the popular thing to do, to rant on about how they hate the President and how everything he does is wrong, but when it comes right down to the wire, they realize that he is right and they have no realistic answers.
Research back to all of the world changing events that our country has been involved in. What would the world be like now if we had turned tail and run, or said we will be out of your way in 3 months and 4 days? How would the people of Germany, France, G.Brittian, Poland, France, Italy, etc. be living today if we had pulled out to early or had not gone there in the first place? If the leaders they had durring those times had prevailed (and expanded their power by taking over other countries) what kind of world would we be living in today? We would not have 'third world countries' we would be a 'third world WORLD'.
Terrorism is a different kind of war, but a fight for a civilized way of life, none the less. We have as much at stake in containing terrorism as the rest of the world does. One spot of cancer, if left unchecked, will spread to the rest of the body.
I have no doubt that the ones in charge have more info. and more plans than we in the public are privy to. That's their job and the way it should be. However, when everything is not spread out on the table for the liberal media and bloggers to micro manage and change to fit their personal political agenda or Polititions use it as a way of gaining power, knowing how people hate war, they say the administration is keeping secrets from the public. DUH!!!!!! What we hear is heard by the good guys as well as the bad guys all over the world.
It's ok to hate war. It's ok to hate killing. But remember that "Freedom Is Not Free!!"
Support our Veterans, past and present. "All gave some. Some gave All" God Bless them!!

I think it is great that you are passionate about what you feel, however, I feel the opposite. A time line gives to much information to those insurgents that are causing the problem. If a time line is to be given I have no problem with it being done on "back channels" to the public doesn't know about it, but to set a line that the enemy can sit back and wait on is ludicrous! My son has spent two year there spanning 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006, and now has primary orders for Korea with secondary orders to stage back to Iraq again for his 5th and 6th combat tour. Though we do not like this as a family, we understand it, and he has not problem with it other than being gone from his family again! I write my congressman monthly on changes that need to be made but most of it falls on deaf ears as I am a Republican and they are democrats. If you really and truly want to help the troops, lobby your reps to provide them with more pay! Do you know that my so is an Infantry Sgt. family of three and makes National Poverty wages of $21,000 a year. Put your efforts into changing that!

The problem is that people are insulting and attacking each other=have a words war with each other here inside the US...
That is not the way to get to know your opinion...
I am not saying that YOU are doing it.
But yes is a lot people insulting wrord ward name calling like is not another way to dialogue peaceful and get together to find the proper solution to the issue that is been discused.
I myself make people believe me because i don't go insulting but I am realistic...Look at both side of the history and histoty talk for itself...
Actions that had happend against our own people.
Some do are against this war yes...
And the ones that have deaths in their family because at 9/11 are not they know better start there and history about violence have alot to do with whats going on.

THE TRIUMPH OF EVIL IS FOR GOOD MAN DO NOTHING...I am not against the war... Even I don't have any of my family or freinds harmed by the terrorist attacks or so.
But I do know that it have to be an extermination..Of radical muslims and terrorist...Have you forget what happend in 9/11?

This is politics. I wish you would seek out other opinions before you act on something like this. Setting a timetable for withdrawal in a war is just plain stupid. If you're going to give up in 6 mos., 1 year, two years, why bother? Just bring 'em home now. I do appreciate your willingness to get involved.

A timetable for withdrawl is really just like an immediate withdrawl, but with more casualties. I'd suggest you campaign for an immediate withdrawl (pass a bill that de-authorizes the conflict - congress authorized it, it can reverse itself - it'd still need to override a veto) or, at minimum, de-funding the war (which would force an end in a few months, and couldn't be vetoed, since it's just refusing to pass a funding bill).

Welcome to immaturity (not you but the 245 or so). One of the greatest signs of maturity is being able to have the courage of your convictions. I would suggest if you are truly passionate about something – read about it and get involved. Skip the mass hysteria stuff for the real stuff that makes a difference. Most of those guys/gals wouldn’t walk across to the road to help you – why do you think they care about what is going on in Washington? Talk is cheap

Wisdom does not show itself so much in precept as in life - in firmness of mind and a mastery of appetite. It teaches us to do as well as to talk; and to make our words and actions all of a color. - Lucius Annaeus Seneca

Democracy is participatory government. It's not fun, it’s not convenient but it’s your duty as a citizen to make your voice heard when you have a concern. This is the only way your leaders know what you expect of them. If you fail to speak to your government then the problem you have noticed in our country is YOU.
