I just recieved a fedex package certified.. the only thing it had in it was 5 money orders for 850.00 each. I dont know anyone with the name it was sent from or anyone from the that state. Could this be some sort of scam?? If so, whats the catch? Im afraid to cash them. By the way they ARe certified us postal money orders. they have the watermarks and all.

I have never heard of a Fed Ex package being sent certified!
Either the sender or recipient covers the cost for shipment on account, or it is paid by third party, credit card, check or cash. It says it on the front of label placed on the package at the time of shipment.
This is what you need to do to protect yourself:
1. Call Fed Ex at 800-463 -3339 and ask for customer service and speak to a live agent.
2. Inquire as to if a Fed Ex shipment can be sent to recipient Certified Mail.
3. Give them the tracking number located at the top line of the receipt. Usually 12 numbers. Check if that's a valid tracking number they have on file, and if it indicates it was delivered to you.
4. Make sure that package was supposed to go to you in the first place. Tell Fed Ex you are concerned if this is a legal package you received. If not, they may want to take a report from you to begin an investigation themselves. Fed Ex is a pretty good company when it comes to customer service, based on my experience at my office.
5. Do not discard of the actual Fed Ex package or its contents.
6. You can also try and notify the sender and inquire as to who they are, what they "sell", how they got your name and address, and what these money orders are for exactly.
7. If it's fraudulant, take the package to your local police station and show it to them. Don't give up the original documents, but make copies and give that to them, if requested. If they request the originals for investigation, then make sure you make a file for yourself with copies.
8. Don't accept those money orders by cashing them. You could be held somehow liable for fraud by accepting the cash, or have yourself signed up for some deal you don't want to be involved in, in the first place! You would most likely have to try and cash them at your bank, which means your bank account information would be attached. Your bank could then find them suspicious and be pointing the finger at you!
Good luck. If it seems to good to be true...it probably is...and is a scam!!!

I agree that the circumstances are very suspicious. I would talk to your local District Attorney, fraud unit, as well as the postmaster investigations unit. They will hold the evidence while the investigate. If it checks out, they will return the checks to you for cashing. I would not cash them and hold the money. The checks are evidence and need to be preserved until the whole thing clears, one way or the other.
If you have no idea who they are from or why they were sent, then a good thing may be too good and therefore avoided.

Don't cash them
they are fake
I know because I was sent some
real looking travelers checks.
they were part of this scam to cash and forward the money
you are left holding the bag when done.

Yes, it's a scam. Don't cash them, if I was in that situation I would take the whole thing and turn it in to your local postmaster general. there's people that are really good at making that kind of stuff look real. Turn it in to the authorities.

Yes, it is a scam. Legally a money order is only good up to $500. They are a big scam. I advise you to tear them up and throw them away. Don't even look at them in the trash.
BIG SCAM.

if it your name on the money order, then yes you can cash them, but don't be surprised if they put a hold on them, just leave them in your bank account, a savings account if you have one, don't touch them for a few weeks, if they clear then the money is yours. and if you feel too guilty about the money then you can send it to me.
