Ask Apple if you are eligible for any discounts, such as a student discount or a automotive employee discount.

With a student discount, depending on the school, they'll take off between 5% and 35%.

Or wait until Apple has a sale. Surprisingly, they have rather decent sales on their MacBooks

The one place I know it not cheap per say. It is a lot cheaper than the "new" ones though. Apple has a refurbished sales seciton on their site:

I completely believe in refurbs. I have worked on and with computers for years. Three years at CompUSA. Refurb models are a bargin. They have all problems fixed and are just like a brand new one with a small price tag.

Like he said, check the refurbished section. There can be some great deals there, but they change often, so you have to keep checking back. I got my MacBook Pro for $1,600.
