This is my fancytail fish (he has changed colors from gold to white in the last month):

Notice his tail and dorsal fins are kind of choppy. It looks like quite some length is gone from them. He's been like this for a little over 2 months now. Any idea what is wrong and what I can do to get them to grow back?

It looks as if his fins were badly damaged at some point about the time you noticed the shorter fins. Did they seem to get shorter all of a sudden? If so it could be the result of an ammonia spike, or an infection that the fish was able to fight off, but whatever the reason, if they are not currently getting worse by the day, they will begin to grow back. It will take a while for them to grow back, but they will eventually.
