i dont like it because it makes little sense. urban means city.
i prefer the term black. i do not like african american. other cultures do not include american in their terms. besides its quicker to say black or white.

That is too much of a generalization.
All people, whatever their race, color, religion, etc., etc., have 'cultural' norms. I have black friends in the South who are well-educated, live in very nice homes, go to the theater with us, and they do not refer to themselves as hyphenated Americans, e.g., African-American. They are simply "Americans.'
When we get together on the 'farm,' however, it's grits and gravy and greens and a lot of fun.
I also have friends, and a family member, who are black, who live in an urban area and who dress like bums and speak ghetto trash even though they are also educated and come from solid middle-class families. That is their choice.
To imply that there is a single black culture is just as wrong as implying that there is a single white culture. It AIN'T so!

Eh. I honestly couldn't care less.
I've been labeled all my life and I have learned that I cannot take what others think of me to heart. No one has a right to box in a certain group because of what they look like, where they live or what language they speak. It just shows how insensitive and ignorant others are...apparently it makes people feel better about themselves if they can identify a group as one thing and then show that they are the opposite.

Urban does not refer to race, it refers to the people who live in the inner cities--regardless of their cultures or races.
Just as suburban people can come from any walk of life--they just happen to live in an area outside of the city. The same goes for rural people--they come in all colors and backgrounds, and live in the country.
Don't confuse 'urban' with crime, rap, or any such thing. Many white people of European descent live in big cities such as New York, Chicago, Phoenix, etc.

I personally don't care either way. Have I ever heard of a black person referring to themselves as "urban"??? No. It probably is just another PC term someone made up in an attempt to not be offensive.

Urban is just a code word the media uses so they dont have to say "Black". It's harmless though.
