I recently installed front axles on my toyota camry, and now the bearings are worn out. I believe that the mechanic should have detected the bad bearings prior to fixing the axle. He claims that my car is old and something can wear out at anytime but i believe that if he did a complete diagnosis the problem could have been detected and fixed earlier and I wouldn't have to pay another fee for labor.
I know that some mechanics take advantage of women...I hope this isn't the case. Please let me know who is wrong in this matter.

Peace and Love

Bearing fail more often because the race holding them in breaks than because the bearings themselves wear down, so it can happen without warning. The mechanic should have suggested replacing the bearings if they were ancient while he had the axles out, but a lot of people think they're getting ripped off whenever someone suggests pre-emptive maintenance.

did you have the mechanic do an inspection of all moving parts prior to replacing the axle 's ? or did you tell him to just replace the axle's ? always have an inspection done prior to having services performed on your car , better safe than sorry i always say !! if he noticed the problem and said nothing prior to making his money then he knew you would be back to spend more money and didn't want to lose the additional business - that makes him a bad mechanic - i would find someplace else to take your car. but yes they can be detected prior to replacing the axles.

so they so they do that in ur country too. These mechanics r the same everywhere. the axles u fixed, r they fairly used or new? some bearings lk any other product can come with defect, but i expect an experienced mechanic to be able to detect it. i'm not blaming anybody, i do not know the state of ur car.

It depends on how far you drove on the bearings after having them put in, and how they wore out.

I've had to replace the wheel bearings on my car. The right side started making a crunching noise which progressively got louder, leading to the failure of the wheel bearing.
The left side went out with no notice.
So, sometimes there are warning signs and other times there aren't.

And also, depending on where you had it done, the bearings may still have been within their company required specs for installation.
